Critique

A very good entry and a great day for the club, with the bonus of special award classes bringing together the greatest number of the breed under one roof. Judging Mittels is a challenging task and I found several exhibits who were much too long and weak in loin, a lack of correct coat and pigment in some, and a few mouths that were all over the place. Weighing all of these problems up and also finding some short upperarms producing short stepping pitter-patter movement at the front certainly gave me plenty to think about. However, that is the judge’s job and yes, I did enjoy the day and the honour of judging. My congratulations to all on a very special day and many thanks to my efficient stewards.
Vet D (5) 1 Mulholland and Looker’s Ch Claran Earthworm Jim under Caolita. Nicely made and presented and in good coat and condition. Good wedge, eyes and ears ok. Clean neck and he pleased in topline, ribs and loin. Moved out well. 2 Powall’s Ch Kuscleys Kute Kevin. Compact and well turned out with plenty of spark. Good head proportions and dentition, just enough neck and plenty of bone. Neat feet. Moved out quite well, though movement was not as positive as the winner. 3 Rogerson’s Ch Only the Lonely.
MPD (2) 1 Purves’ Bulabs Polar Bear. Res BPD. Shows much promise, pleasing in head with a good wedge and moderate stop. Good forehand with plenty of bone and held a good topline on the move. Well angulated and when he tightens should do well. 2 Winsor’s Spilmah Affair and Away of Lysebourne. Not the substance and bone of the winner, but moved out adequately once he settled. Eyes and ears were plus points and at 6 months old has time on his side.
PD (2) 1 Hewett’s Spellcast Talk to Me. Best Puppy Dog, BPIB and Res BPIS. Compact black and very stylish with a well proportioned head and a good muzzle. Straight front, plenty of bone and a strong loin and plenty of rib. Well angulated at rear, good set on and moved out effortlessly fore and aft. Doesn’t want to grow much more but very promising. 2 Orchard’s Spilmah Penny for Em. Good breadth of skull and nice wedge. Dentition ok and scored in eye, ears and neck. Not the substance of bone of the winner and longer cast. Movement somewhat erratic.
JD (5) 1 Andrews’ Claran Shades of Fontleroy. Res BOB and BOS. Compact and short coupled showing correct lines in profile. Just right for size with substance, bone and balance. Good headpiece, neat and well set ears and a clean neck. Short strong loin and a good set on. Presented in nice coat and has neat feet. Moved out well. 2 Powell’s Desaria Blue Print at Brookwell. Put down in a cracking coat and condition, with a medium sized head and good wedge and moderate stop. Eyes, ears and neck were plus points. Plenty of bone and rib with a good tailset. Movement not so positive going away. 3 Purves’ Rossfort Xeel among Bulabs.
PGD (10,3) 1 Beard’s Wyndlee Chandera Spectre. Nicely balanced and pleased in head shape, neck and outline. Just enough bone, nice erect ears and a good set on. Plenty of coat and moved out well fore and aft. 2 Powell’s Desaria Bobbi Brown at Brookwell. Stronger in head than the winner with plenty of bone and substance. Neat ears, good dentition and just enough neck. Good set on and well angulated at the rear. Moved out quite well once he settled. 3 Dickinson’s Nixtev Inferno.
LD (13,3) 1 Powell’s Desaria Aurelius at Brookwell. Res CC. Pleasing black, balanced and showing nice lines. Good headpiece with the right proportions, well set ears and a clean neck and topline ok. Short strong loin, good set on and neat feet. Just enough bone and moved out well fore and aft. 2 Connor’s Galvizach Limited Edition. Pushed the winner hard, compact and showing himself off well. Presented in first class jacket and pleased in head, eye and ears with a good topline and set on. Would prefer slightly more neck, but presented a nice picture overall and moved out briskly. 3 Hunter’s Rossfort Eldorado.
OD (10,3) 1 Beard’s Ch Wyndlee Ghost in my House. Quality dog holding his age so well. Short coupled, nice size and all of a piece. Presented in good coat, plenty of rib and a strong loin and good set on. Good headpiece and moved out with plenty of drive from the rear. 2 Connor’s Galvizach Rock n Roll. Longer cast than the winner but nicely made with just enough bone. Pleasing head, erect ears and a clean neck. Well angulated at rear, good set on and moved quite well. 3 Powell’s Ch Desaria Disraeli at Brookwell.
Vet B (3,2) 1 Moir’s Ch Wilmac Kreme Kookie at Jansanleis. Best Vet and BVIS. At 14 and a half months she is a credit to her owners and the breed - what an advert! Compact, short coupled and in firm condition for her age. Pleasing head, good wedge and erect ears. Dentition ok. Level topline, good set on and balanced overall. She sailed round the ring as if she owned it.
MPB (3) 1 Beard’s Spilmah Penny Layne in Wyndlee. BPB and Res BP. A feminine, flighty black who impressed once she settled. Pleased in skull and foreface with a good wedge. Nice made, compact with a good rib and set on. Moved out briskly holding a good topline. 2 Holmes’ Wyndlee Fire and Ice. Much to like about this baby. Short coupled with a nice head and moderate stop. Good dentition. Pleased in eye and ear with just enough bone. A little loose in front, but moved out adequately. 3 Mulholland’s Wyndlee Iced Cream mit Zephen.
PB (4,1) 1 Beard’s Spilmah Penny Layne in Wyndlee. 2 Orchard’s Spilmah Affair to Say. Another attractive baby with a pleasing head and expression, erect ears and a good topline with plenty of bone. Longer cast than the winner. Full of herself and moved with a nice action and held a level topline. 3 Holmes’ Wyndlee Fire and Ice.
JB (4,2) 1 Thurston’s Rossfort Zanadu from Liubice. Nice cream with a straight front and good bone. Dark, nicely shaped eye, erect ears and a clean neck. Well ribbed up with a level topline, neat feet and a good set on. Moved out well fore and aft. 2 Bray’s Abbicher Lily Langtree. Not the substance and bone of the winner and longish in loin. Head properties ok. good dentition and pleased in eye and ears. Good set on and neat feet. A little erratic on the move.
PGB (7,3) 1 Clayton’s Studholme Loving Lass. Cream and nicely made all round, scored in head, with moderate stop and a good wedge. Eyes, ears and neck were all plus points with good bone, and she was holding a level topline on the move. A bit short in coat but surely one to look out for. 2 Orchard’s Spilmah Silent Witness. Close up to the winner. Bigger sort and a little longer coat, but good head proportions, straight front with nice bone, a clean neck and a level topline. Moved out quite well once she settled 3 Gray’s Druitz September Song from Penlas.
LB (10,3) 1 Beard’s Danacks Winnt the Witch. Well made brown, nice size and shape and plenty of scope on the move, though she took time to settle. Good breadth and skull and nice wedge. Eye and ears ok, with a clean neck, level topline and good set on. 2 Purves’ Bulabs Truly Scrumptious. Good substance, nice head with a pleasing expression. Well ribbed up, neat feet and showing nice lines on the move. Short on coat but plenty to like about this one. 3 O’Loughlin’s Runfold Fast Forward to Caoilita.
OB (7,3) 1 Hunter’s Rossfort Casual Look. BCC, BOB and Res BIS. Quality exhibit, short coupled and compact with good bone and substance. Head proportions just right with muzzle, stop and wedge all plus points and scored in eyes and ears. Clean neck, short strong loin and a good set on and neat feet. Shown in excellent coat and condition. Ran a little wide in front at first, but pulled herself together, showing both reach and drive on the move, holding a cracking topline. 2 Rogerson and Dore’s Ch Katcandy Black Magic. Res CC. Pushed the winner all the way. Quality black with a well boned front, pleasing head , eye and ears and well ribbed up. A little longer in loin than the winner, but balanced on the move and putting all in. Turned out and handled most impressively. 3 Beard’s Driftaway Gin Sling in Wyndlee.

EVA HILL MEMORIAL SPECIAL AWARDS: It was a great honour for me judging the special awards to celebrate the life of a wonderful lady, Eva Hill. I could not believe the entry I obtained & thought how gd it would be to go over so many quality ds as it was restricted to Champions, CC & RCC winners. I’m sorry but I have to say I was disappointed with some that had been given top honours, saying that my placings were what I was looking for in his fabulous breed.
GERMAN SPITZ (MITTEL)
D
(18). 1 Chambers & Rogerson’s CH Druitz Corncracker For Teamspitz. JW SHCM. This Cream d could not go wrong today. Shown in tiptop condition & the nearest thing to fit the standard. I have gone over Best mover of the day, that’s why he was Best Mittel & Overall Winner; 2 Beard’s Wyndlee Chandrera Spectre. Young Orange d who is one for the future. Lovely head & expression. Close coupled giving gd movement; 3 Beard’s CH Wyndlee Ghost In The House.
B (9). 1 Pooley’s Wyndlee Fallen Angel From Azkaban, Cream. Another well b from this kennel whose movement was gd, keeping a gd topline. Nice head but would like a shorter muzzle. BB; 2 Moir’s CH Willmac Kreme Kookie At Jansanleis. Cream old girl who can still mix it. Not in full coat but shape was there, well done; 3 Beard’s Danacks Winny The Witch.
