Patella Luxation

Like many small breeds, the German Spitz can suffer from Patella Luxation or Slipping Patellas and whilst there isn't yet a recognised KC/BVA health testing scheme for it in the UK, there is a scheme called the Putnam (1968) testing and scoring method.
Due to the scheme not being an official test recognised by the KC, it hasn't yet been widely used in the breed but details and results of any German Spitz that have been tested can be found on the German Spitz Breeders and Owners Club website.

Dogs must be over 12 months old (ideally over 18 months old) for testing as there is little point in testing an immature dog whose bones are still growing or changing but it has been discovered that even this age may be still too young and in Finland any dog tested any younger than age 3 must be tested again after that age for a lifetime valid score.
