Critique
Very much enjoyed judging the breed at this level for the first time & thank the exhibitors for the good entry.
I found the males to be much more straightforward than the bitches who took quite a bit more sorting out. Generally I had more of a problem with the bitches’ heads since there were many that looked the part posing on the floor but closer scrutiny revealed lots of heads that were well beyond the medium large requirement & far too acute in stop, frequently accompanied by larger round eyes. Most were well ribbed up & fairly short coupled with only a few not carried back far enough. Front action needs watching, both crossing over & too high stepping being in evidence. Obviously there are still size variations.
These are just intended to be my observations as an outsider, overall they seem to be becoming much more uniform in make & shape.
PD (4,1a) 1 Halligan’s Icabel Shine On, br/wh parti who scored here on overall balance & slightly more positive action, handy size in an almost square shape with enough neck to carry his head proudly, skull has width & could possibly flatten a touch more as yet but ears are well placed & stop is moderate, decent shoulder & front, firm level topline & tail set very high, excellent quality coat for age in good condition. BPD; 2 Hughes & Forrester’s Candease Bring Me Sunshine, quite well balanced but not quite so compact a package as 1, good head attributes & a more steady showman, good front down to tight round feet, developing well in spring of rib with firm level topline, sound rear assembly set off by high tail; 3 Holmes’ Lightmoors Jack Be Quick. JD (5,1) 1 Allison’s Oberitz Renegade, liked for size & balance, broad skull fairly flat, neat ears, eyes a touch bold but dark, decent front down to very neat feet, moderate neck, well ribbed up with level topline & high set tail, definition to hindquarters, scored in action & shown in good black coat; 2 Halligan’s Icabel Whisky Mac, litter brother to Shine On & very similar with many of the same attributes, fairly firm in front with ribs developing well for age, level topline & tail set high, needs to settle to the job in hand; 3 Morgan’s Dare To Dream of Ahlen. PGD (3) 1 Thomas’ Orion Winner Takes All, was quite taken with this young black lad, super for head type with the very best of eyes being not too bold, of lovely shape & dark, small neat ears, best front in the class, good feet, moderate neck, firm level topline, very high set tail, well formed quarters & brisk true action, sympathetically shown in good condition, with maturity should be able to make his presence felt. RCC; 2 Andrews’ Porterble Sirius Black from Runfold, well grown with balanced outline, good expression from dark eyes of good shape in well laid out head, level topline & high tailset, steady mover; 3 Holmes’ Oberitz Prinz Charming. LD (5,1) 1 Stannard’s Lusam Davey Dingle at Ulmarra, gold sable, very well balanced in an almost square frame, masculine but not overdone in head, ear placement detracts very slightly, dark eyes of good shape well set, well finished wedgy muzzle, best of fronts, super tight round feet, very well developed ribcage & firm topline, short coupled, tailset & carried high, moderate hind angulation with muscle through second thigh, excellent harsh coat, one of the best movers today; 2 Mole’s Molead Moon-Beam, orange, masculine head with good width to skull & ears well placed, dark oval eyes, good front & feet, decent shoulders, well ribbed up & short coupled, very high set tail, sound true mover in good harsh coat.; 3 Hughes & Forrester’s Candease Back To The Future. OD (6) Lovely class. 1 Kimber & Brigden’s Ch Wychlea Ludo at Stonelight, almost square shown in tip-top shining black coat, best of heads with width to skull & ears well placed, moderate stop & dark oval eyes obliquely set, enough neck for carriage, decent shoulders to good front, mature in rib & short coupled body, tail carried high, strong rear, sound free mover. CC; 2 Chamber’s Ch Nosregor Hot Shot for Musique, another masculine lad with good head properties, straight forelimbs to tidy feet, ribs carried well back, level topline & high tailset, hindquarters in balance, shown in hard condition; 3 Naylor’s Terendak Bubble Top.
PB (6,1) Quite a difficult class. 1 Serman’s Bonneavid Treacle Tart among Tymy, black who was the most finished & self-assured in her deportment, good wedgy head & attributes with eye just dark enough, well ribbed up for age, width to rear, plentiful harsh coat; 2 Norkett’s Sinders And Snow, b/w parti who I liked a lot to go over, has a lovely head with features all complementing one another well, decent shoulder & front, topline straight but spoilt her outline by persisting in keeping her head down & upsetting balance, good rear & all round action, needs confidence & ring experience to reach her potential; 3 Asher’s Wychlea Lady Saphire. JB (4,1) 1 Allison’s Oberitz Raven, good head type on this almost square black, ears well placed & just a moderate amount of stop, decent shoulder & front, well ribbed up & topline held firm, some definition to quarters, shown in good form & moved fairly true; 2 Tullis’ Radajasa Double Fizzion, upstanding white with best of fronts & very short coupled, level topline & tail set high, moves very well; 3 Asher’s Wychlea Lady Saphire. PGB (8) Very even class. 1 Andrews’ Dusty Midnight Sky over Runfold, impressed the most with her typy head, neat ears & dark eyes of good shape, good front & feet, well ribbed up & carried back, firm topline & tailset, good quarters, decent mover shown in good nic; 2 Storm’s Stormavon Scotch Mist, useful pale cream who had left her coat at home, feminine in head & not overdone, enough stop, dark eye, excellent front & topline, tail set in right place but carriage detracts slightly, sound true mover; 3 Trendle’s Lusam Parti Popper. LB (7,1) 1 Kimber & Brigden’s Stonelight Electra, this black was a convincing winner here, very typical all through with nice head type, ears well placed, moderate stop, eye just dark enough, excellent shoulder & front, very well developed in ribcage, level topline & very high tailset, good strong rear & can really move out; 2 Hill’s Edburton Llyngoes at Cyfelin, sable with stronger head, arched neck & showy head carriage, excellent clean front, well ribbed & short coupled, tail set high, good sound mover; 3 Salisbury’s Teomakleins Lady Penelope. OB (7,1) 1 Wright & Storm’s Orion Absolutely Fabulous, cream with much appeal, super for head type having width without too much stop, everything in moderation, neat ears well placed, excellent shoulder & front, well ribbed up & back, firm topline, high set tail, definition to quarters, good action, shown in top condition to take CC, her third I understand, & BOB; 2 Serman’s Ch Dourhu Black Velvet, all quality black, sadly out of coat today but loved her head & expression from dark well placed eyes, another with excellent shoulder & front, short coupled, tail set high, sound true moving. RCC; 3 Breen’s Ch Wychlea The Dutchess.
