Critique
This show fielded an excellent entry for depth of quality, particularly in the bitches, and also for quantity. I could have easily awarded several CCs in the bitch entry, and people know that I don’t often say that!
I found a number of youngsters that ‘pushed the measure’ but I also found several throughout the entry at the other end of the size scale that lacked enough bone. Coats, as per this time of year, were varied, but I kept foremost in my mind the texture, density and the fact that it should not disguise the body…i.e. too much coat is not typical, in my mind. When coupled with a very well sprung ribbing, then the excessive coat only makes it more marked.
Temperaments were excellent, not one ‘dodgy’ at all, which is a delight to encounter in this companion breed. Feet were very good to excellent, tail carriages were very good, but the front construction on a number of dogs meant that their front action was less than desirable coming and going, and even some dogs which had good overall balance of shoulder and rear angles tended to be quite extravagant in the front when gaiting around the ring.
PUPPY DOG (6,2): 1. Hughes & Forrester’s Indizak Shades of Winter in Candease, almost 12 months old, mature puppy, correct head properties, pigment though ears could be a tad higher set, but well used. VG body substance, well ribbed back, strong loin, correct coat texture, vg tail, ok movement.; 2, Wright’s Montblanc Bjorn Ironside at Orion (IKC), 7 month old baby, very well trained but still immature in body, as one would expect at this age. VG coat for density and texture, but just needs more time, has all the essentials for breed type. Moves a shade close in the rear, no doubt with exercise this will improve.;3, Bayliss’Nardik Mylo Xyloto.
JUNIOR DOG (4, 1): Both first and second had, in my opinion, ears that would have benefitted from being a shade higher set and neater in size. 1, Hayward’s Chilite Desert Fox, 13 month old with preferred substance, body shape, rear and side gait.; 2,Anderson’s Kelmarin It’s a Wookiee at Georgeglen (IKC), 17 month old with preferred head and expression, ex. Coat texture, ok body, not as mature as the class winner in this department. ; 3, Nardik Mylo Xyloto.
POST GRADUATE DOG (2, 1): 1, Pearce, Francis & Williams’ Longsdale Devil in Disguise with Trebettyn, Pushed the measure, but is quite typical for breed type and expression. Well placed ears, ex. pigment, VG rear and side gait but persists in toeing out in the front, which I suspect has something to do with his shoulder placement.
LIMIT DOG (5,1): 1,Lewis’ Indizak Hakuna Matata at Louchelle, excellent breed type, love his head, expression, neat well set ears well used, vg body, excellent body shape, strong loin, correct layback of shoulder and length of upper arm to bring the elbow under the highest point of the shoulder; excellent rear and side gait but is a tad exuberant in the front. I found this dog so typey and sound, no hesitation in awarding him the Dog CC, his first, and also Best of Breed. In the challenge for Best of Breed the handler must have walked him quite a bit as he was much more settled in the front and moved absolutely true. I was delighted to hear that he was in the final 6 for the Group, well done!; 2, Hull’s Wyndlee Cam en Bear at Clarmer, 2 yr old chocolate dog whose very slight shortness of muzzle affects his expression. Eyes could be more oval, but otherwise I found this dog very typical in outline and gait. Today he was lacking body; 3, Bayliss’Kysiena Enchanted Sky.
OPEN DOG (5,1): 1, Dyer’s Oberitz Curiosity at Javarm, 2 yr old black dog possessing excellent breed type for head, expression, neck and body. Not quite in full coat but texture is correct. On the move he showed correct rear and side gait, but a bit exuberant in the front. I love his overall correctness of breed type and construction and thus, the RCC.; 2,Bamford’s Kysiene Spring Tide at Hazdawn, this large dog has VG head and expression, ex. Pigment, correct ears and eye shape. His forward placed shoulders however, affected his front gait, as he was very wide in front. Excellent rear gait; 3,Hawker’s Chilite Running Bear.
PUPPY BITCH (4, 1): All were minor puppy bitches in different stages of development. 1Tullis’ Radajasa’s Greta Zelle, 7 month bitch for me was the standout in this class. Hard to believe for such a youngster to have such confidence in the ring is noteworthy. She has excellent head, eyes, pigment, though ears could be a tad neater, but with development of head they should balance out. Excellent conformation overall, one of the FEW today possessing straight and parallel action of front legs when gaiting. She is a natural show girl who stands with ideal balance and outline a star in the making, Best Puppy in Breed.; 2,Hall’s Nardik Inky Dinky Doo, a real baby just 6 months old and is I suspect, minimum size, but she has an overall VG shape and balance. VG gait overall, still very immature, needs time; 3, Moxon’s Chilite Cochina at Thirldene.
JUNIOR BITCH (7, 2): 1,Baker’s Clarmers Ruby Red, 16 month old chocolate bitch whose handler allows her to overstretch in the rear quarters, thus emphasizing her length of loin. Otherwise, she is very good to go over for conformation, correct pigment and eye colour for her light chocolate coat, typical head and expression, VG body development, good coat, vg side and rear gait; 2, Nardik Inky Dinky Doo; 3,Hawker’s Chasing Spirits at Chilite.
POST GRADUATE BITCH (6,1)My notes say this was not an easy class.:1,Delve & Andrew’s Claran Fern, small bitch which I suspect is on the minimum size for the breed, and is fine boned but very well put together, She has the required and desired positive outlook, bright expression, excellent ears, VG body, coat and gait overall;2,Beck’s Holbain Honey Bunny, 2 yr old with good head and expression, VG body, substance, tail, tends to stand and move ’10 to 2’ in the front but is better in the rear and side gait.;3, Moir & Corkin’s Jansanleis Hope “N” Glory.
LIMIT BITCH (12): This class by far and away was the best in the entire entry, what a wonderful collection of excellent bitches, thank you for bringing them out under me today! 1,Rogerson’s Nosregor Lies ‘n’ Deceit, a black bitch almost 3 yrs old with excellent head and expression, overall balance is ideal, correct coat, compact well ribbed back body, excellent tail, neat ears. RCC; 2, Hill’s Cyfelin Solitaire,3 yr old bitch who has excellent front construction, excellent rear and side gait. Her head, however is not her fortune as I find the muzzle too short for overall proportions and ears too wide set; 3, Quinn, Francis & Pearce’s Longsdale Leave a Little Luv.
OPEN BITCH(4): 1, Pearce & Francis’Ch. Longsdale’s Dilemma Almost 2 yr old black bitch with excellent outline, oozes breed type, correct head, neck, front; she has VG bone, neat feet, excellent tail, and coat for texture. Excellent rear and side gait. Bitch CC; 2, Shepherd & MacBain’s Chilite Indian Bow, 5 yr old parti bitch which is alert, active in personality. She is on the smaller end of the spectrum but has sufficient bone and body for her size, vg coat, ears well set, excellent front and side gait, would like more oval eyes;3, Allison’s Oberitz Firebee.
