Boston German Spitz Klein
Thank you to the society for the invite to judge at their fabulous show. Boston holds fond memories for me so to award my first set of CCs here in my beloved breed was very special. The ground was immaculate, level, short grass and generous ring sizes. I was well looked after by my efficient steward, Jane. Thank you to the exhibitors who felt my opinion worthy of an entry, I was very humbled to receive one of the higher entries of the year for the breed.
Overall there was a real mix of type, I felt there were some dogs with multiple characteristics akin to the Pomeranian, a charming, related breed but with different requirements in many areas including coat, head pattern and ear. A Klein should resemble a smaller Mittel and vice versa and with a small gene pool it is imperative we not only work together but that we are objective when assessing dogs if we want to maintain type. All dogs went comfortably under the maximum measure and temperaments overall were good. I was pleased with my principle winners and there were several dogs that had me splitting hairs on the day.
Junior dog.
1st Xanto X Temnych Noci (Imp Cze) (Mrs S Hill) 16 month rich orange dog, shown with a gleaming profuse coat of correct texture. He presents a square outline. Good pigment producing a pleasing contrast. Acceptable wedge shape to head but I’d prefer a better length of muzzle and flatter skull to prefer a more typical head. Short neck into level top line and pleasing spring of rib. Sympathetically handled. On the move he was rather uncoordinated today and messy in all directions.
Post graduate dog.
1st Shiva’s Step to Kingdom (Imp Bgr) (A J Bagshaw) 2 year old Black and Tan male shown in profuse, coat of good texture. He presents a compact square outline. Good wedge head, full bite, dark eye and neat ears that are well set. Correct length of neck, level top line and well angulated, moderate rear. He was enjoying his day immensely and this affected his movement as he was a touch high in front today, would like to see him when settled.
Limit dog.
1st Claran Edge of Glory (Ms K Andrew) black male with very appealing masculine appearance who caught my eye as soon as he entered the ring. Attractive head with correct proportions of muzzle to skull, correct bite and obliquely set eyes. Correct angles fore and aft, good spring of rib and short loin to give him a textbook silhouette. A little unsettled today which cost him in the challenge but when he did settle he moved correctly in all directions, a very exciting prospect and one I’m pleased to see went on to get his title at the Club show.
2nd Rosco’s Hurricane (Mrs L & Miss B Lampen & Wilson) 2 year old cream male shown in excellent condition both in body and muscle tone, and in full coat. Correct square outline in profile. Scores in head with a good wedge and muzzle to skull ratio, full dentition and striking black pigment, to be picky his ears could be a slightly better set as these detract from his expression. On the move he was clean in all directions with correct reach and drive, to be expected from his construction.
Open dog
1st Biggi Best Beast with Longsdale (Imp Lav) (Mr G & Mr D Pearce & Francis) 3 year old black male shown in top physical condition. In profile he looks a shade long but hands on dispels this and allows you to appreciate his attributes fully. He has the most appealing head - medium broad of correct wedge shape, ratio to skull spot on and almost flat when viewed from above. Oblique eyes well set and shaped. He is all male, masculine without being coarse. He is moderate throughout, angles correct and perfect tail set and carriage. On the move this boy excels; correct in all directions showing both reach and drive. I was pleased to award him the CC which I am told has made him up, congratulations.
2nd Dream Team Stars Irresistably Black (Imp Bgr) (Mrs H Moore) 2 year old shaded black male. A little fine in head but has the correct eye and ear set.
Level top line and well angled rear. He presents a compact outline. I found him a steep in shoulder which was seen in his movement today with him over reaching at the front. He lacked in body, which would help strengthen his rear action.
Veteran dog.
1st Ch Musique Born Legacy (Mrs J Y & Mr A M Chambers) the most eye catching, glamorous cream and white parti colour headed up this class today. Shown in top order with his full coat in pristine condition. He belies his age of 7, he is all male, and presents a correct outline. Appealing dark pigment adorns his head, wicked dark eye which oblique and of correct shape and shown with clean, full dentition. Well set ears of correct shape and size. Textbook proportions all through his body & spot on for substance. On the move he excelled, opening up and showing correct movement all ways. This dog is a worthy champion, in contention for top honours, I was splitting hairs I just preferred the slightly flatter skull of the open dog so he had to settle for the RCC & BVIB today.
2nd Ch Perrymere Just Bertie JW (Mrs A & Mrs F Jackson & Minshall) cream male shown in good order. I’ve being fortunate to judge this boy before and lots of my comments apply again today. Correct head with good muzzle length, dark eye, obliquely set eye correct shape and neat, well set ears. Correct length of neck, straight front into neat cat feet. Well ribbed up, short loin and moderate, well muscled rear. Moved out well today with good reach but a touch wide at the rear today.
Minor puppy bitch
1st Kismet’s Top Tier Diva Is Rosco (Mrs L & Miss B Lampen & Wilson) this 7 month old cream bitch caught my eye the minute she entered the ring. She is a very promising youngster who oozes confidence. The most attractive head of correct proportions, complimented by her sparkling dark eye and pigment. Well set and shaped ears. She presents a cobby, square outline & has an sufficent amount of bone. Well muscled rear adorned with correct set tail. When settled she is clean in all directions. Delighted to award her the RCC & BPIB
2nd Claran Enchanted (Ms K Andrew) Very pretty bitch who is utterly feminine. A little reserved on the day but this I’m sure, will change with time. Good wedge head developing with dark eye, obliquely set and well set ears of correct shape. Throughout she is correct in angulation and proportions but I would prefer a little more substance. When settled she moved ok.
Junior
1st Longsdale Get Together with Ferrybelle (Miss J & Mrs S & Mr G & Mr D Ferry & Ferry & Pearce & Francis) winner of this class was this 12 month cream bitch who is going through the dreaded junior stage and left her coat at home. Typical head with dark pigment, sparkling eye of correct shape and well set ear. She is correctly angled, moderate throughout and shown in good body. Excellent tail set and carriage. To be picky I’d like her a shade more compact. On the move she was unsettled today which didn’t allow her to show the movement her construction indicated.
Post graduate bitch
1st Melitabe Lyra avec Fecimus (Mrs B Cheyney-Wiles) wolf sable bitch who presents the most attractive square outline. Shown in profuse coat of correct texture and length. Good wedge head with well used, ears of correct shape and set. Gleaming dark eye but would prefer a slightly better shape. Correct ratio of muzzle to skull but the latter could be flatter. Straight front with neat feet, well ribbed up, good tuck up and short, strong loin. Excellent tail set. Moved well from all directions.
2nd Fecimus It’s Coming Home at Grovevalley (Miss Dj Green) Feminine cream bitch, with correct head pattern, good wedge shape although perhaps a little finer than ideal, dark eye and well set ear. Good length of neck into well laid shoulder. Level top line and well angulated rear quarters. She was sadly unhappy today but moved well once settled.
Limit bitch.
1st Longsdale’s Eternal Flame with Ferrybelle (Miss J & Mrs S Ferry) 2 year old sable bitch who left her coat at home but this only highlights her construction. Attractive head, of correct wedge and proportions, well set ears of correct shape, dark, oblique eye, well set to complete her desired feminine expression. Ample length of neck, she was shown in good body. Stood she shows a typical outline and has sufficent bone. Moved out well with correct drive but a touch close behind. One I’d like to see in bloom.
Open bitch. 1st Ir Ch Longsdale No More Drama Ir/int Jch Cw26 Cjw26 (Mr G & Mr D Pearce & Francis) My star of the day was this 2 year old black bitch. This spirited exhibit has the most appealing head, textbook proportions of muzzle length and strength, correct skull ratio which is nearly flat from above. Well set dark eye. Ears are well set and of correct shape and size. Clean scissor bite. Moderate neck into strong shoulders with correct lay, straight legs of ample substance and the neatest of feet. A level top line, well ribbed up with correct spring, short loin and firm, well angled rear, finished with the perfect tail set and carriage. She was the breed standard personified. On the move this bitch demanded attention, she was brisk and effortless in all ways with ideal reach and drive. CC & BOB
2nd Fecimus Having A Giraffe (Mrs B Cheyney-Wiles) 5 year old Black and Tan bitch shown in full coat. She scores in head which is the correct ratio. Well set ear of correct size. Dark, expressive eye but would prefer a slightly better shape. Full Hands on all is where you would expect it to be and she is an honest bitch with a lot to like. Unfortunately she was a touch heavier than ideal and that sadly affected her movement on the day.
Veteran bitch
1st Fecimus The Good Fairy (Mrs B Cheyney-Wiles) 10 year old brown sable bitch. She presents a pleasing, typey outline. Feminine head of correct shape and proportions, medium broad, with moderate stop and nearly flat when viewed from above. Pigment compatable with her beautiful colouring. Dark eye medium sized of correct shape and obliquely set. Well placed, neat ears finish her headpiece. Ample neck, good lay of shoulder with corresponding length of upper arm, moderate tuck up and well angulated rear. Presented in full coat. Missing a few teeth to be expected at this age. She moved well in all directions, brisk with correct drive and no exaggeration, a very nice bitch & a credit to her owner.
2nd Oberitz Out of The Shadows (Ms N J Allison) 8 year old cream bitch who left her coat at home today. Pleasing feminine head, good wedge, correct muzzle to skull ratio, dark eye and well set ears, she has the most alluring expression. Correct length of neck leading into a well made frame, correct angles fore and aft, she is beautifully compact. Moved a touch close behind today but with ample reach and drive.
