Critique

A pleasure and honour to be asked to judge my breed at their Open Show.

The entry was, numerically, excellent and I thank the exhibitors for this. Overall dogs were better than bitches; the latter in the higher classes were sometimes quite poor. This is very worrying as these are the future of the breed.  Movement is still very varied in both sexes and bad mouths seem to be creeping back in. Temperament in some was questionable, where has the "happy, equable” disposition gone? None showed any aggression but many would obviously rather have not be there. On a positive note, I had some very good dogs to go over and was very pleased with my overall winners.

Veteran Dog (5,1a)

1st Hawkers Ch. Chilite Navajo. Brown/White particolour.  Short coupled ideal size, excellent bone, and sturdy little legs, finished with perfect, tight cat feet. Correct harsh coat, good mouth, moved true coming and going. He has improved with age and could out move many youngsters today.  Was delighted to award him BV and RBOB and see him go on to BVIS.
2nd Naylors Ch. Tymy Desert Hawk At Aniday. Another very nice dog. Cream/White particolour. Sound in every way, correct head, coat and ample bone for his size, good mouth, slightly finer throughout than 1. 3rd Bradburys Wychlea Flashin It About.

Minor Puppy Dog (4,2a)

1st Dyers Oberitz Abracadabra At Javarm. Orange sable. Very mature puppy, nice head and expression. Good coat coming in. Showed and moved out well. Hope he doesn't grow anymore.
2nd Holmes Oberitz Doktor Allwissend. Very similar to 1, good Gold coat coming in, again up to size. Lovely bone and tight cat feet.

Puppy Dog (4, 2a)

1st Dyers Oberitz Abracadabra At Javarm
2nd Holmes Oberitz Doktor Allwissend

Junior Dog (6)

1st Allisons Oberitz Pocket Rocket. Black dog, up to size but well proportioned. Excellent bone and feet.  Correct harsh coat texture. Moved well coming and going. Good wedge shape head, dark eye and lovely expression.
2nd Sermans Tymy Tymajusting. Shaded black. Smart young dog, smaller all over than 1. Short coupled, good bone, correct head topped with neat, small ears. Moved out very well. Just coming back into coat. Preferred overall balance of winner.
3rd Lusam Crispin Blunt.

Post Graduate Dog (9,2a)

1st Dickinsons Wychlea Pickle. Black. Correct type, good harsh coat. Wedge head with small neat ears. Good eye shape and colour. Good mouth. Ideally would like more bone. Moved ok. In the challenge he was a bit bored with it all but did enough in this class to earn his award.
2nd Hawkers Chilite Smokin Joe. Cream, one of my harder decisions. Very nice spitz, in full correct coat. Ample bone, good tight cat feet, correct head with dark pigment and eye. Moved well but decided he didn"t like the hall and refused to put his tail up. A temporary thing I’m certain, but it completely alters the outline of the dog and on this point he gave the class away.
3rd Moles Molead Moon Beam.

Limit Dog (11,4a)

1st Hawkers Under Milkwood D’Arlande Of Chilite. Cream. Very smart, mature dog. Short coupled, good bone, tight feet. Nice wedge shape head with excellent black pigment and dark eye, expression slightly marred by staining. Moved true coming and going.
2nd Naylors Terendak Bubble Top. Cream, very similar to 1 and much the same remarks apply although he doesn’t suffer from the staining that can happen with this colour. Pigment and eye colour not quite as dark and a little finer throughout than 1. Preferred overall balance of 1.
3rd Pardens Dunbrook Cracka Jack.

Open Dog (8,1a)

1st Highmoors Kartmel Legolas. Black. Presents a lovely outline, I think he is at his peak, I’ve never seen him look better. No denying his sex. Gleaming, correct harsh coat, perfectly presented. Good strong bone, tight feet. Wedge shape head, topped with small neat ears, correct mouth, eye shape good, colour could be a shade darker but does not detract from his overall quality. Moved well enough to win the class, BD, BOB and RBIS.
2nd Naylors Oldcharm Black Knight. Shaded black, well presented. Very spitzy outline, good wedge head, correct mouth. Good bone, tight feet. Up to the measure but in proportion.
3rd Chambers Nosregor Hot Shot For Musique

Veteran Bitch (2)

I’m not going to patronise these two lovely bitches by saying they enjoyed their day out, they could both still hold their own in any competition.

1st Bradburys Ch. Wychlea Anne Versary. At nearly 9 years old, the younger of the 2 by 4 years. I was delighted to have the opportunity to go over this bitch and I can only repeat what many have already said about her, she is a template for the Klein. Short, square outline, almost perfect head, ample bone, lovely tight feet, gleaming black coat, covers the ground with ease, all this finished off with a non-stop wagging tail.  Today she gave way to youth but she is a lovely bitch. BB
2nd Highmoors Ch. Printzagems Diva. Blue bitch, hard to believe she is 13 years old, she can outmove many of the youngsters. In lovely condition, her coat is still very glamorous and perfectly presented. Different type to 1 but every bit the show-girl. Good bone, tight feet, correct wedge shape head topped with small neat ears.

Minor Puppy Bitch (2,1a)

1st Allisons Oberitz Fairy Magic. Gold sable puppy. Nice size, good bone, small cat feet. Correct mouth, good wedge shape head although under eye needs to fill out a bit but she is very young. At her first show, she moved well and coped with the acoustics in the hall, a nice puppy.

Puppy Bitch (5,2a)

1st Cooks Goldritz Sleepflower. Cream. Promising young bitch of 9months, correct coat, presented perfectly. Good bone for size, small, neat feet. Nice wedge shape head with correct black pigment, correct mouth and dark expressive eyes, ears could be a tad smaller but does not detract from quality. Well bodied, can appear long but structurally she isn’t. Moved out well. Should have a bright future.  BP and BPIS
2nd Bradburys Wychlea Ursula Brown. As her name implies, Brown puppy, this colour is not easy to breed to get the rich, desired, dark brown but she has it. Very promising. Good head, small neat ears, dark eye, good mouth. Sufficient bone for size, small tight feet. Moved ok although could firm up in front. Preferred overall finish of 1. RBP
3rd Reynolds Sweet Like Chocolate.

Junior Bitch (8,2a)

1st Kimber & Bridgens Stonelight Octavia. Cream. I dislike the word “pretty” when applied to a dog but I can’t think of any other adjective to describe this bitch. She is the stuff of chocolate boxes. Just coming back into coat which is immaculately presented and of the correct texture. Not a big bitch but has sufficient bone for her size, small tight feet. Head is well proportioned although a stronger muzzle would be desirable, pigment jet-black, lovely dark expressive eyes. Stands four-square and moved out well, front could be tighter but she has time on her side. Lovely, happy temperament.
2nd Furbers Here I Come For Holbain. Black/White. Different type altogether to winner, appears heavier throughout. Very mature bitch in full coat. Strong bone, sturdy legs and feet so tight and small you can hardly see them. Correct head, good mouth, small neat ears, moved ok but tends to throw back legs out a bit. Preferred general shape and outline of 1.
3rd Haywards Don’t Look Back.

Post Graduate Bitch (8,2a)

Difficult class, a lot a variation in type and size.

1st Gittoes Molead Moon Dust At Jendale. Shaded black. Firm, short coupled body, good bone, head ok, nice small ears, good mouth. Moved ok
2nd Salisbury’s Teomakleins Lady Penelope. Black, smaller than 1. Slightly long cast. Enough bone for size, good feet. Head slightly round in skull, dark eye, and nice expression. Not in full coat. Moved well.
3rd Holmes Oberitz Fiery Fox.

Limit Bitch (9,2a)

1st Sermans Tymy Time And Tide. Gold Sable. Very attractive bitch, head is tipped with dark muzzle. Correct wedge head, good dark eye, and nice expression. Neat ears, correct mouth. Good bone, tight feet, moved well. Little short on coat but it is of correct texture and nicely presented. A useful bitch.
2nd Salisbury’s Hasweth Fade To Grey Among Tymy. Gold Sable. Very similar to 1. Colour lighter and has blue pigment which is acceptable with coat colour. Same remarks apply as 1, preferred head and eye shape of 1.
3rd Moles Chilite Midnight Magic.

Open Bitch (9,3a)

1st Bradbury’s Wychlea Aimy Vooh. Black. Very smart young bitch. Good overall shape and size giving correct outline. Correct wedge head, ears could be a shade smaller but well placed. Good bone and tight, neat feet. Correct mouth. Moved well.RBB, BOS.
2nd Trendles Ch. Lusam Beatty Romanze. Shaded black. Different type but lovely to handle. Firm, short coupled body, good bone and feet. In full coat of correct texture. Moves with enthusiasm, lovely character. Preferred head proportions of winner.
3rd Pardens Dunbrook Bedazzled.
