Critique
KLEINS – It is some time since I judged Klein Spitz & I am pleased to say there appears to be an improvement in the depth of quality & type. Some otherwise nice exhibits were in overweight, soft condition which caused rolling in movement. There were still a number of exhibits who pitter-pattered around the ring & this should be borne in mind when selecting mates for breeding. Mouths were much better, only one suspect, but quite a few had missing premolars which does matter as lack of these can cause distortion in the cheeks. All teeth were clean.
Many carried far too much coat. The breed Standard calls for profuse, but not as profuse as possible! In the wrong hands dogs with these excessive coats can quickly become matted.
I had three with character failings (shy), plus one who actually had a growl at me. None of these gained high awards.
VD (4) 1 Highmorr’s Ch Kartmel Legolas, 10 years black, medium size & strong, very good type with correct head. Passable ears which could be higher set & perhaps a size smaller to advantage, eyes could be a shade darker. Good bone, legs & feet, well balanced, in proportion, good quarters, good overline, high tailset, moved well enough, quite firm & sound; 2 Mole’s Molead Moonbeam, 8 years orange, medium size & strength, well put together with harmonious proportions, good type, calm self assured temperament. Good head, though a fraction less stop would further improve. Would prefer darker nose pigment. Moved in a co-ordinated manner & soundly!MPD (5) 1 Morgan’s Ahlenagens Fancy That, 8 months lemon/w parti, well grown strong puppy, good bone, legs & feet, very nice head of correct type, well proportioned with good outline & high tailset, well put together, firm ligaments, good size gait, sound coming & going, in good condition, well presented, quite a mature attitude for one so young. Should have a good future. BP; 2 Furber’s Holbain Just Tim Brown, 8 months brown, medium size & strength, typy head. Ears could be set higher. Sufficient bone, good legs & feet, good quarters, condition & plenty of coat, moved adequately from the side. Could be cleaner coming & going. PD (5) 1 Pearce & Francis’ Longsdale Willie Win, cream of medium size & strength, immaculately presented, lovely type & quality. Apart from needing to be at ouch flatter in skull, his head is otherwise good with dark expressive eyes & correctly placed ears. Very good bone, legs & nice tight feet, excellent coat & pigment, good hindquarters as is the tailset & general proportions. Slightly short & steep in upper arm which makes him tend to paddle somewhat in front action & has a slight roll on the withers, otherwise a decent stride. Toes in going with ring hind, but sound coming; 2 Hawker’s Chilite Running Bear, b/w parti, masculine attractive dog with a steady outlook on life, good bone, nice legs & feet, good head with correct eyes & ears. Could do with a longer upper arm & more slope to it as the shoulders are somewhat forward placed. Correct hindquarters, sound coming & going with a nice side gait. Has an excess of coat. JD (1) 1 Sennan’s Rochedo Bill The Badger by Tymy, as his name denotes b/w parti, strong & firm, medium size, very smart dog, very typical in every respect, full of bounce & Spitzy attitude in every respect, good head, outlook, forehand & quarters, shows the desired type in every respect, in good coat & condition, quite sound, excellent side gait when allowed to go on. Pushed hard for top honours, but had to be content with RCC to a more mature dog. His day will come. PGD (4) 1 Wright’s Orion Shockwave, well pigmented cream, nice type, good head, eye & ears which are of correct size & carried well, very good proportions & balance, well boned, good legs & feet, moved well with a good stride. Going away he is rather close; 2 Cook’s Goldritz Splash And Burn, cream, not the pigment of 1. Attractive medium size medium strength dog, nice head & general outlook, good bone. Pasterns could be firmer. Well proportioned, good quarters, adequate movement. Could be better going away as he is somewhat close, carries too much coat. LD (8) 1 Kemp’s Orion Black Dazzle at Yanlan, black of excellent type, size & balanced proportions, very good head with correct eye & ears, well put together, good quarters. Feet are nice & tight but need trimming. Good sound brisk gait; 2 Mole’s Chilite Shooting Star, medium size brown pigmented cream, head is good. Rather large ears, under a bit too much coat. Shape is generally good with good bone, legs & feet, sound coming & going, moved well from the side. OD(10) 1 Andrews’ Ch Porterble Sirious Black from Runfold, medium size medium strength very typy dog, lovely head, eye & ears, good body shape, nice strong thighs, correct hind angulation. More length & slope to the upper arm would add to the picture. Very good character, coat & condition, well presented. In the past I have been very critical of this dog’s movement! His soundness is not in question, but I have seen him do all kinds of contortions when going around the ring. However, here with a different handler he was a different dog! I wouldn’t say he was the best moving Spitz I have ever seen, but his gait was very co-ordinated & he actually strode out! This was enough to win this class & together with his excellent proportions, Spitzy character & type, eventually the CC; 2 Highmoor’s Ch Printzagems Verve, medium size black of medium strength, attractive head, good eye, correct ears carried well, well put together. Maybe a touch longer in couplings than 1. In good coat & condition & sound coming & going, but not as co-ordinated in gait as 1 & had a tendency to amble at times.
VB (4) 1 Bradbury’s Ch Wychlea Aimy Voch, 9 years black of excellent type & correct medium size, best of heads with true Spitz expression & outlook, very good body shape, stands foursquare on good legs & feet. A touch wide coming & close going. An example of a very good side gait, carries her years lightly; 2 Morgan’s Lusam Love In The Mist, 8 years brown, nice type, medium size & strength, good general appearance & all over shape, good coat, well carried tail, fair movement. MPB (4) 1 Allison’s Oberitz Firebee, lively black, very typical head with nice eyes & small ears which are well carried, strong bone, legs & feet. Needs to grow on as she appears a little short in leg. Very sound with a fair to average side gait; 2 Godridge’s Lusam Teasy Weasy, pretty cream of good type, well pigmented, in good coat, nice head, good strong hindquarters. Slightly forward placed shoulder which was reflected in her front movement, she tended to lift her forelegs rather high. Sound. PB (5) 1 Furber’s Holbain Like Her, attractive cream with brown pigment, nice quality puppy of good type, good coat, correct in head, eye & ears, good proportions, bone, legs & feet, moved out quite soundly & well; 2 Garwood’s Buffmyster Bolaro, medium sized black of good type, pretty head with correct eye & ear, sufficient bone. Feet could be tighter & more catlike. Nevertheless, overall a decent sort of bitch who should benefit from maturity. Moved quite well from the side, but close coming & going. JB (2) 1 Bradbury’s Wychlea Vixen In The Dark, black of true Spitz type, good correct head, nice eyes & ears, well shaped, good quarters & proportions. A touch more bone would further enhance. Moved quite well; 2 Kemp’s Yanlan Continental Coffee, cream, heavier than 1 & carries more coat which isn’t to her advantage. Good eyes & ears. Could do with a slightly longer foreface to balance head proportions. Good outline with nice bone, legs & feet, moved adequately. PGB (8) 1 Allison’s Oberitz Cocoa Bean, deep brown chunky medium sized bitch, excellent type, general appearance & proportions, true Spitz head, good eye & ears, very good fore & hindquarters, lovely bone, legs & feet, moved smartly & well, quality type who I liked as soon as she came into the ring. Looked somewhat immature against the big guns from the Limit and Open classes. When full mature will trouble the best; 2 Penwarne’s Sheldamar Voodoo Doll, medium size black with grey trousers & a white foot behind, well put together with harmonious proportions, correct head, eye & ears, nice coat of correct length, good mover, very sound, in top condition, alert & attentive to her handler. LB (12) 1 Hills’ Paulgeo Dark Eyed Beauty at Dreamspinner, strong upper medium sized black, in lovely bloom & condition, high quality, excellent type, good head & expression, lovely dark eyes with well carried correctly sized ears, good quarters, strong legs with good bone & feet, very nice mover, co-ordinated & sound; 2 Morgan’s Lusam Maybe Baby at Ahlenagen, upper medium sized sable, good type with nice dark pigment & colour. Not as good in head as 1 as she has a shade too much stop. Eyes & ears are fine, in good coat & condition, good overall shape & outline, nice hindquarters, good legs & feet, just enough bone, very nice in movement, sound. OB (12) 1 Francis & Pearce’s Ch Longsdale Gen You Win, this class was led in by a cream model of a Klein Spitz. This bitch excels in charisma, élan & the wow factor! Medium size, medium strength, in hard condition, hard & dry, first impressions all good, pretty head with lovely dark eye & good well placed & carried ears, strong pigment, immaculate coat, good backline with well carried tail, very strong correct hindquarters, well let down hocks. To be critical, a little short in upper arm which does not affect her extremely good movement which is spacious, free, very sound, really brisk & ground covering. Very attentive to her handler who shows her on the end of a long loose lead. CC, BOB & with the agreement of my co-judge BIS; 2 Penwarne’s Ch Sheldamar Spell On Voo, black of medium size & strength, well proportioned bitch of excellent type, very good head, eye, bone, legs & feet, full of life & showing great attitude, in very good coat & condition, good quarters, pleasing general appearance, moved very well with a brisk co-ordinated stride. RBIS.
