Critique

As a founder member of the GS club and former committee member and officer many years ago, I have followed this breed for quite some time; often despairing at what I was seeing in the breed ring, however, today was not one of those days, I am glad to say! It has been over five years since I last judged the Kleins, and I am very impressed to find how much the heads have improved, the "Pommie" look of deep stop, rounded skull, short muzzles is almost absent, thank goodness, and well done to the breeders for working so successfully on that aspect. On the other hand, the lack of substance and bone in some of exhibits does cause me concern, keeping in mind what the standard has to say about that. Ear set and size also needs attention as well.
MPD (1): 1,Francis, Pearce & Williams' Longdale's Let's Go Trebettyn NAF TAF, 6 month cream with lovely wedge head, overall good expression, but ears are at this time a tad big and wide set, hopefully, he will grow into them. He has OK front, excellent legs and feet, good coat and tail, is a shade long in loin. His puppy coat very evident in texture and he needs to settle in gait, but otherwise promising.
PD (1): 1, Pearce & Francis' Longdale's Woody Win, 9 month old rich chocolate dog with good head and expression, another one who needs to grow into his ears, as they are a tad tall and wide set. VG conformation overall, compact almost square dog, excellent tail, neat feet and moves well.
PGD (6,2): 1, Jackson & Minshall's Holbain Just Like Bill, 18 month old cream dog with excellent head and expression, intense black pigmentation to compliment the correctly proportioned wedge head and almost flat skull. He has a VG front, excellent legs and feet, VG body, tail and gait, giving a most attractive outline. VG movement, but in the challenge was not as precise or as assured as the CC winner, but his time will certainly come. RCC; 2, Morgan's Ahlenagens Fancy That, 19 month old cream and white parti dog with good head and expression, neat ears, eyes are good for colour but a shade round, good overall body, ribbing well back with short loin and topped with excellent tail, but needs more time to mature in spring of rib. Shoulders not as well laid as the class winner and this showed in gait.; 3, Owens Indizak Circle of Friends at Irisid.
LD (2): Number 2 moved better but I preferred the head properties, expression, coat of the class winner, as well as overall conformation and sturdiness of body.1, Cook's Goldritz Stole the Sun; 2, Wright's Orion Shockwave.

OD (4): 1, Wright's Ch. Minigardens Emil Lovely boy (imp), 5 yr old light cream dog having excellent conformation, almost square body, true sound gait, possessing a wealth of harsh off standing coat, compact body, short strong loin, excellent tail. Head properties are VG with correct proportions of muzzle to skull, very neat ears, and eyes are dark but spoiled a bit by staining; overall excellent for breed type and conformation. Personally, I would like to see a bit less coat, as I feel the abundance of coat overwhelms the overall balance of the dog, which your hands do find when examining him. Dog CC; 2, Morgan's Ch. Cyfelin Jack Frost At Ahlenagen, 3 yr sable dog another one with excellent conformation and good overall balance, lovely body development, short strong loin, well ribbed back, excellent tail. His head is VG with dark eyes and tiny ears, but would like a tad more length of muzzle to balance, and he is inclined to be quite wide in stance in the front, otherwise an excellent dog; 3, Corr's Ir/Int ch. Crystal Clear Working on a Dream (CJW11, Jun Ch.).
MPB(3): 1, Hill's Cyfelin Solitaire 6 ½ month old pup with preferred body shape, she has excellent well set ears, dark eyes, good front, excellent tail and on the move is spot on for side and rear gait, just needs to tighten in the front, but most promising. Best Puppy in Breed.; 2, Quinn's Crystalclear Dream a Little Dream, 6 month baby quite raw, but has lovely dark eyes and excellent proportions of skull and muzzle, will need to grow into her ears. She is VG to go over but needs time for body and coat to grow; Corr's Crystalclear Tiny Dancer TAF NAF.
PB (4,2): Both of these pups at this time lack body and need more confidence in an indoor setting. 1, Eades' Seirian Skyfall, almost 12 month gold with good head, expression. Eyes are a tad round, and ears need to be higher set. She has a good front and moves with true action; 2, Yemm's Seirian Mrs Brown, almost 12 month chocolate bitch very similar in many respects to the class winner. She does have a better length of muzzle than number one, but not as compact in body or as high set of tail, nor as positive in gait.
JB (1): 1, Yemm's Seirian Mrs Brown.
PGB(3): Hamer's Clarmers Caramel Surprise, gold bitch, which was one of the few today possessing a true buoyant temperament that is so essential to this breed. She has VG head and expression, but eyes are a shade bold, otherwise a VG body, legs, excellent coat texture and correct tail; VG gait.; 2, Eades' Seirian Solitear 2 ½ yr chocolate bitch with good neck, VG coat texture, and good rear and side gait. Her ears were a bit low set and she wasn't too happy to use them but eventually did; 3, Allison's Oberitz Firebee.
LB (2,1): 1, Trendle's Lusam Toodle Pip, 2 yr sable bitch with excellent conformation, body, coat texture, and just off square body. Naturally enough, she moved with precision and drive, as one would expect when going over her, given her well-muscled quarters. She has black pigmentation and dark eyes, but the set and size of ears could be neater and higher placed, and would like a tad longer muzzle, otherwise an excellent bitch.
OB (5): Best class of the day for depth of quality. 1, Pearce & Francis' ch. Longdale's Jen You Win JW, 3 yr cream bitch with outstanding outline and lovely proportions. Once you get your hands on her, they only confirms what your eyes tell you: this is an excellent bitch, with lovely head and expression, neat ears, that are well set on her wedge shaped head, excellent neck, true front not too wide, VG body, excellent tail , neat legs and feet. On the day, yes, I realize she wasn't in the full coat, but in retrospect, I would say that less is more in this girl, in that her lovely neck, true forehand and topline were self- evident and in some respects, made for a more pleasing overall look than when hidden by an abundance of coat. Bitch CC. In the challenge for breed, her effortless forward reaching side gait and lovely head and proportions and balance tipped the top award in her favour. Best of Breed. Group 4.; 2, Corr's Ir. Ch. Chilite Spirits Wild at Crystalclear (Jun Ch.), 3 yr gold bitch another one with excellent conformation, having VG head properties, dark eyes which are a bit round, and ears could be a tad higher set, but she has the correct proportions of muzzle to skull, excellent neck and forehand, lovely body development, strong ribbed and short loin, correct coat and true gait, a close decision, another one of clear champion grading, RCC; 3, Pearce & Francis' Ch. Rimazet Serafino of Longsdale, JW.
VB (1): 1, Trendle's Ch. Lusam Party Popper Sh CM, black and white parti 7 ½ yrs young, another one with excellent conformation and movement, could teach a lot of the youngsters how to move out positively around the ring. She is an alert bitch, on her toes the entire time, showing off to good advantage her harsh coat, excellent tail set, VG front, dark eyes. Would like ears a bit neater and higher set, but otherwise another excellent bitch.
