Critique
It is nearly 3 years since I judged this breed, I would like to be able to say that there has been a general improvement overall. There has not! I was more than happy with my winners, but we have no depth of quality going down the line. Far too many were in fat, soft condition, rolled all over the place and had to pay the penalty. The stabbing sewing machine action is still with us and more than a few moved away closely. Teeth, or should I say lack of them? Many had multiple missing premolars and in at least two, missing molars. I do not remember this causing concern last time I judged but it certainly did this day. I did not, as someone suggested to me, count teeth! No need, there were plenty of gaps!
My day was made easier by my two very able stewards, Mr Derek Allsopp and Mr David Allman, to them my grateful thanks, for their help and efficiency.
Veteran Dog
1. Bradbury’s Ch Wychlea Rhonday Vooh, black, 8 years old. Very correct in type, head and ears. He has good bone, balanced quarters, moved with a fairly good stride and very sound.
2. Metcalfe’s Ch Flactem Domino, 9 years particolour black/white. Head proportions OK but has a tad too much stop, correct in ears, eyes. Has very good bone, legs and feet. Good forehand, needs a little more hind angulation. Moved quite well. Sound.
3. Stannard’s Ch Lusam Davey Dingle.
Puppy Dog
1. Bamford’s Kysiena Spring Tide At Hazdawn. Black/white particolour, top size, strong dog. Balanced with good forehand and hindquarters. Apart from a bit too much stop, good in head, eye and ears. Well coated, good bone and sound in movement.
2. Trendle’s Lusam Malarchy. Cream, in good hard condition, good head, eyes well shaped but tear stained a little. Well proportioned with good quarters. Correct coat, moved well. A shade weak in pasterns.
3. Lewis’ Indizak Hakuna Matata At Louchelle.
Junior Dog
1. Beard’s Wyndlee Cam En Bear. 1 year brown. Nice type with good head, expression, ears. Nice eye. Well shaped and quite square. Enough bone, nice tidy movement. Correct coming and going.
2. Roberts’ Oberitz Vanadinite. Very good coloured brown. Medium size. Good head, ears, eyes and type. Very square in proportions, more bone would further improve. Moved well and sound coming and going.
3. Tiziano’s Kung Fu Panda Party Attack (Italy)
Post Graduate Dog
1. Eades’ Indizak Scarlett Feather. Copper coloured sable, 2 years. On the lower limits of the standard, but put together so well. Very smart and compact with true Spitz attitude. Good proportions, well balanced, good head, eyes, coat and very well set and very well carried tail. Very good mover with excellent forward reach and drive. This, together with his overall firm condition and superb attitude won him the RCC.
2. Dyer’s Oberitz Melting Point At Javarm, brown, 1 year 10 months. Very strong colour, nice head, correct ears and eyes. Well shaped behind, could perhaps have more slope to upper arm. Short in back, moved well and very sound.
3. Bamford’s Applebanks Goldfinger At Hazdawn.
Limit Dog
1. Morgan’s Ahlenagen’s Fancy That. Top size strong dog of good type. Good head, ears and has good bone, legs and feet. Shown in good coat and moves soundly with good stride. Could have been much firmer in condition – rolled over the back and wither.
2. Hamer’s Clarmer’s Diamond Mischief, black, shown in good coat and condition, good head, good bone. Not so good in proportions as the winner, needs more length to his forelegs, but this did not appear to affect his movement which was free and sound.
3. Mole’s Chilite Shooting Star.
Open Dog
1 and CC Serman’s Rochedo Bill The Badger At Tymy 3 ½ years black and white. Strong, medium size with attractive, correct head and of excellent type. Shown in very good coat and condition, very firm in back and very muscular. Good upper arm and shoulder, correct in hindquarters. Has a very good attitude and very Spitzy in his outlook. Moved soundly, and with a good length of stride.
2. Pearce and Francis’ Ch Longsdales Willie Win 3 years cream, medium sized, strong and of good type. Put down in immaculate condition with a lovely coat. Nice head, good neck and high withers. Could have more length of upper arm and a slightly better lay of shoulder. Lovely bone, legs and feet. Moved adequately but rolled over back and wither. Quite sound coming and going.
3. Cooke’s Goldritz Stole The Sun.
Good Citizen Dog
1. Trendle’s Lusam Charlie Dobby. Well preserved 16 year old cream! 4th in veteran dog. In good coat and condition, a bit round in the eye and rather too much stop. Moved in good fashion for such an “oldie”.
Veteran Bitch
1. Trendle’s Ch Lusam Parti Popper, black and white particolour. Nice type, correct in head with neat ears and good eyes. Very good proportions, with good length of leg. Moved with a good stride.
2. Breen’s Ch Kylecroft Symphony. Cream, another nice type with good coat, legs, feet and bone. Good head, nice forehand and hindquarters. Well set and carried tail. Sound mover, though not the length of stride of the winner.
3. Garwood’s Printzagem’s Tantalize.
Puppy Bitch
1. Walker’s Kysiena River Dance.
2. Norkett’s Applebanks April Showers.
3. Thomas’ Indizak Circle Of Life
I do not appear to have any notes on this class. I cannot think why not! I do apologize to the 1st and 2nd.
Junior Bitch
1. Jackson and Minshall’s Holbain Trix Of The Trade. Very pretty sable, lovely coat and condition, good head, ears, eyes and type. Plenty of bone with strong legs and good feet. She has good, correct quarters. Moved very well and quite sound. Could be a bit more confident, something she did not show in the class, but backed away in the final lineup from the ring steward. I gave her the benefit of the doubt as she was quite alright with me.
2. Garwood’s Buffmyster Star Of The Show, black and white particolour. Very smart bitch of good type. Well balanced with correct proportions. Correct head, good body, bone, legs and feet. Well set and carried tail, moved well.
3. Williams’ Stormavon Silverangel At Meghara.
Post Graduate Bitch
This was a very good class headed by Hill’s Cyfelin Solitaire. Pretty, light cream sable with a good black mask and excellent pigment. Lovely head, expression, good bone, legs and feet. Shown in top condition, moved soundly and well. I did consider her for the RCC but thought the second in open slightly more correct in proportions.
2. Tonks’ Oberitz Happy Hour, black, another in good coat and condition. She has correct head, eye and ears. Good legs and feet. A shade forward placed in shoulder, which made her very slightly long in the middlepiece. Strong hindquarters, well set and well carried tail. Moved with a good stride coming and going.
3. Bradbury’s Wychlea Fhaye Tacomplea.
Limit Bitch
1. Allison’s Oberitz Firebee. Black, compact well knit bitch of good type, size and quality. Attractive head, correct eyes and ears. Good bone, legs and feet. Correct forehand and hindquarters. A very smart bitch who moved very well around the ring. Went away close, good coming.
2. Trendle’s Lusam Toodle Pip. Wolf sable, compact with good pigment, nice head, dark eyes. Pretty and feminine. Sufficient bone, strong legs and good feet. Good proportions, almost square. Well coated and in good condition. Plenty of character and good attitude. Very nice co-ordinated gait.
3. Norkett’s Applebanks Florentine.
Open Bitch
1. Pearce and Francis’ Ch Longsdale Jen You Win. Cream, absolutely beautiful! Has quality, style, charisma, ring presence, the lot. Such a good type, well balanced, excellent proportions, lovely quarters, altogether so well put together. The best of legs and feet, good bone. Absolutely sound and possibly the best mover I have seen in the breed, excellent reach and drive and so effortless, her handler can barely keep up with her! As always, in immaculate condition and superbly handled. I had no hesitation in awarding her CC and Best of breed.
2. Hamer’s Ch Clarmers Caramel Surprise. Orange. Good bitch of correct type. Correct head, which was not enhanced by tear staining around the eye which made them appear, incorrectly, round, they are of good shape, nice ears, forehand and hindquarters. Very good proportions and length of leg. Good dark pigment. Moved soundly and well. RCC.
2. Bradbury’s Ch Wychlea Vixen In The Dark.
Good Citizen Bitch
1. Trendle’s Lusam Toodle Pip.
2. Breen’s Ch Kylecroft Symphony.
3. Kettle-White’s Lusam Spic N’ Span.
