Critique
The German Spitz Club held a championship show where I judged the overall BIS with the Mittel judge Ralph Ensz, making the Klein, Longsdale Feel Free To Stare BIS with the Mittel bitch, Ch Jansanleis Mayhem RBIS; BP, the Klein, Jansanleis Hot’N Happening for Musique; & BV was the Klein, Ch Lusam Davey Dingle at Ulmarra.
KLEIN – When invited I was delighted to accept this special appointment. The entry that greeted me was a very good one & the enthusiasm of the exhibitors is to be admired. It seems that everyone helps each other which is surely the way breeds should be.
VD (2) 1 Stannard’s Ch Lusam Davey Dingle at Ulmarra, when judging in Europe often the first class you judge is champions which gives a standard for the breed there, this dog, for me, was to give me my standard for the day. I misheard his handler & thought she said he was aged 7 later when I discovered he is 11 I was even more impressed. He is in great coat & condition, has complete dentition in his typical spitz head with good clear eyes, neat ears & the best of skull shapes. His excellent neck, topline & tailset are due to a very good ribcage & shortness of couplings which give him great balance. His angles are right at both ends & he stands on four straight legs with tight feet, toes pointing forward & doing the same on the move. He does move a little close behind but many of the better movers today did the same, he could give the breed positive lessons in correct front movement. When it came to the challenge I could not resist him & was delighted to give him a second CC. He gave way to youth for BIS but he really is a star. BVIS; 2 Trendle’s Lusam Charlie Dobby, this one is great for his age with an excellent coat. Dentition & eyes are now showing his advancing years but he is fit & happy to move along to show off. A great credit to his owner. MPD (3) 1 Chambers’ Jansanleis Hot’N Happening for Musique, this one is quite mature in body for just 6 months. In lovely coat & condition & willing to show himself off like a much older puppy. Super mouth & dark eyes. Enough stop & flat in skull. Quite nicely made in front with good spring of rib, level in topline & well used tail. On the move he will hopefully tighten in front, his excitement was affecting this & in turn it altered what could have been a correct rear. Later on he was steadier & won BP overall; 2 Francis, Pearce & Williams’ Longsdale Devil In Disguise, this one was also very young & less mature than 1, he was more positive on the move but I would have liked a better front assembly & rib. Pleasing in head with typical earset & dark eyes. Nicely balanced & used his neck. Showed very well; 3 Wright’s Jansanleis Loud’N Proud at Orion. PD (0). JD (4,1a) 1 Bamford’s Kysiena Spring Tide at Hazdawn, nicely balanced & profusely coated parti with good markings. He is on the size but hopefully has done all his growing. Matured nicely in the head with good skull & decent width between his ears. Excellent topline & tailset & moved out well in both directions which gained him the first spot; 2 Dyer’s Oberitz Curiousity at Javarm, correct for size & well balanced in outline. Has good length of rib & excellent tailset. He has more maturing to do & I hope his skull will fill a bit more, nice for neck. Standing on very good feet, the best here, & moved well going away; 3 Oberitz Hot Pursuit to Sheldamar. PGD (3) 1 K Spring Tide at H; 2 Beard’s Cam En Bear, a pretty brown in just enough coat. Pleasing in head type but expression just spoilt by a tad round eyes. A shade fine in bone but well knuckled feet & moved quite well. Good depth to his ribcage & held tail OK though set could be higher; 3 Lewis’ Indizak Hakuna Matata at Louchelle. LD (4) 1 Beck’s Nardik Tiger Woods, correctly balanced black with pleasing head type & good mouth. Eyes could be a nicer shape. Decent angulation front & rear & thus was good on the move. Good topline & tailset, in excellent jacket & showed well; 2 Stannard’s Ulmarra’s Hot Toddy, loved this one’s balance & strength of bone. Super muzzle to skull relationship but is a tad short in neck. Super front & excellent tailset. Although he moved out really well he was not very co-operative when stood; 3 Bamford’s Applebanks Goldfinger at Hazdawn. OD (8,2) 1 Jackson & Minshall’s Holbain Just Like Bill, cream in very good coat & condition. Well constructed all through. Good muzzle to skull relationship & very typical expression. Best of legs & lovely tight feet. Level in topline & with good tailset. The best mover in the class. RCC; 2 Pearce & Francis’ Fin Ch Pasifixin Riki Martin with Longsdale, super headed black but there does not appear to be quite enough space between the ears as their base appears to be too wide. Liked his legs & feet but on the move he may have been going just too fast as he was quite untidy in front & doing very odd things at the rear some of the time. Maintains a good topline & nicely carried tail; 3 Wright & Halligan’s Nardik Eclipse.
VB (5,1) 1 Moir’s Ch Stormavon Sky Flyer to Jansanleis, well coated cream in good condition & with excellent dentition. My notes say good everywhere so I was pleased with her construction & her action was acceptable too. Unlucky the VD was on such good form; 2 Garwood’s Pritzagems Tantalize, not quite as positive on the move as 1. Pleasing head & mouth, well proportioned in body. Profuse black coat but not over the top. Feet a bit flat; 3 Trendle’s Ch Lusam Party Popper. MPB (4) 1 Pearce & Francis’ Longsdales Dilemma, jet black with super shape. Good angles both fore & aft & excellent bone with good feet. Well sprung in body, level back & good tailset. Nice on the move; 2 Wright’s Orion Chloe May, there is more of this one thus she will take a little longer to come together. Nicely boned. Pretty in head & has good topline & rear angulation. I would prefer a bit more in front. Her body should develop further; 3 Moir & Corkin’s Jansanleis Neat N Tidy. PB (3,1) 1 J Neat N Tidy, white, both she & her handler have some learning to do but we got there in the end. Solid in body & sweet head & expression. Good topline, well carried tail but does need to tighten on the move; 2 Moir & Corkin’s Jansanleis Hope N Glory, much less developed in the body than her sister at 1. Pretty eyes & good skull. Time is on her side. JB (3) 1 Bamford’s Applebanks April Showers at Hazdawn, brown/w parti with lovely head, having good muzzle to skull relationship & nicely set ears. Just enough neck, good topline & neat tail. Nice legs & feet & moved really nicely going away but not quite as positive coming; 2 Scott’s Lusam Oh So Bonny, this one was out of coat but nicely made. Broad in skull with dark eyes & good mouth. Well made all through & nice on the move in rare moments when she was controlled. Some learning needed; 3 Delve & Andrew’s Claran Fern. PGB (11) 1 Allison’s Oberitz Candy Melt, black with very typical head & great balance. Impressive angles & width in front. Excellent topline & tailset. Moved really well at rear just a bit extreme in front; 2 Beck’s Holbain Honey Bunny, very nice type well coated parti. Good mouth, nice angles & good legs & feet. Short in back with excellent tailset. Rather nice on the move; 3 Penwarne’s Oberitz Vertigo at Sheldamar. LB (5,1) 1 Avery’s Aveka’s Estrellita, on size b/w parti. Lovely head with the tiniest of ears, good bite, correct stop & width to her skull. Nice front & rear angulation, solid in the body with level topline & excellent tailset. Really good on the move in both directions, one of the best movers here today. RCC; 2 Allison’s Oberitz Firebee, very boxy with neat outline, can the breed be too short? Ears rather high set on an otherwise nice head. Good width all through & standing well. Tends to sway in the front having an adverse effect on her rear action; 3 Serman’s Wychlea Lady In The Mirror by Tymy. OB (5,1) 1 Pearce & Francis’ Longsdale Feel Free To Stare, lovely white who was good on the move with width both ways. Neat neck & great topline. Pleasing in head though would prefer smaller ears, a fault that has certainly crept into the breed in recent years as all exhibits in the class were the same. Stands foursquare & has well sprung body of depth & an excellent tailset. Pleased to award her the CC; 2 Trendle’s Lusam Toodle Pip, loved her head type but base of ear just too wide. Great balance with good spring & length of rib, level topline & good tailset. Moved really well but is just a shade overweight; 3 Bradbury’s Ch Wychlea Vixen In The Dark.
