Windsor 2018 – German Spitz (Klein) Critique

Thank you to the society for my invitation to judge both sizes of German Spitz; we had a lovely large ring that allowed me to move the dogs under cover and still appreciate them on the move. Thank you very much to my 2 very efficient stewards and their trainee for the day.

Mittels are currently more together as a type than Kleins and tend to be on the whole sounder with more correct exhibits being shown.  I was very pleased with my line ups and my 2 BOB winners represented the breed well in the group.

Veteran Dog or Bitch (1).  1). Trendle’s Ch. Lusam Party Popper ShCM. Not showing any signs of aging, this 12 year old bitch is still very fit and super sound. Broad wedge, feminine head. Oval eye. Excellent dentition for her age. Stands four square. Straight in front and nicely angulated rear. Short coupled with high set tail. Moved soundly in all directions.  RCC & BV.

Puppy Dog (3)   1). Jackson & Minshall’s Perrymere Just Bertie. Quality male in full coat. Lovely head pattern with oval eye. Excellent dentition, big teeth. Excellent body proportions, short in back with short, strong loin. Balanced front with well angulated rear. Stands foursquare with straight front, neat catlike feet. Still needs to mature and broaden in body as to be expected of his age. Moves straight coming and going. Did not have his usual verve in the ring today.   2). Pearce & Francis’ Longsdale’s Cool Riser. Lovely puppy that still needs time to develop. Lovely head and expression, neat ear and oval eye to compliment.  Excellent dentition, big teeth. Holds a lovey outline when standing, excellent tail set. Still needs to develop in front. Moved steadily from the rear. 3). Sutherland’s Cyfelin Man In Black.

Junior Dog  (1).   1). Hill’s Fernando Z  Temnych Noci At Cyfelin (Imp). Strong boy, well off for bone. Broad skull with muzzle to match. Stands four square. Good body proportions. Well ribbed up, well developed forechest, still needs to drop in brisket. Moved steadily with drive. Harsh coat.

Post Grad Dog (3,2).  1). Chamber’s Musique Quilo.  Quality male. Lovely head proportions. Oval eye, obliquely set. Moderate neck, set into well laid shoulder. Good return of upper arm, stands well over his elbows. Still needs to drop in brisket. Straight , well boned legs. Neat feet. Body broad and short coupled, well ribbed up. High set tail. Good rear angulation with good turn of stifle. Moved out well with extension and drive.

Limit Dog (5,1).  1).  Serman’s Printzagems Late Arrival For Tymy. Stunning, compact black with excellent head proportions, oval eye and neat ears well placed on head. He is a boy who needs to be gone over to be fully appreciated. His outline  in profile fits the breed standard to a tee. Strong body with good bone. Well-developed forechest, straight front, strong in pasterns. Broad through ribs, well sprung. Correct angulations front and rear. Short, strong loin. Moved out with an even, brisk, effortless gait. Holding his topline on the move. Quality harsh coat, presented well. Pleased to award him CC & BOS .   2). Moir & Moir’s Jansanleis Loud ‘n’ Proud. Compact boy with good substance . Mature in body . Excellent wedge head.  Moderate neck. Would like more length to shoulder and upper arm, but moved steadily and straight coming and going. Stands four square and presents a good impression of himself.  3). Orr 7 Dyer’s Musique Wishful Thinking  JW.

Open Dog (4).  1). Chamber’s Manzamas It’s Right It’s Wrong (Imp). Stunning , well balanced dog with a typical wedge shaped head. Excellent front, he stands well over his elbows. Ribs are well sprung. Short, strong loin. Excellent proportions in rear with good turn of stifle and well let down in hock. Steady movement with extension and drive. In gleaming harsh coat, well presented. RCC. 2). Andrew & Andrew’s  Jansanleis He Rocks My Boat To Claran.  Another stunning dog. Larger male with super head pattern, small, triangular ear and beautiful dark, oval eye. Good angulations front and rear. Lovely profile although longer cast that 1. Strong in body, high set tail. He covers the ground well, moving slightly wide in front.  3). Bamford’s Applebanks Goldfinger At Hazdawn.

Good Citizen Dog or Bitch (1).  1). Trendle’s Lusam Toodle Pip ShCM.  Medium sized bitch but strong through body. Her front and rear angulations are well balanced and this shows on the move, with an effortless, brisk, ground covering stride. Totally naked , but what little coat she has was of correct harsh texture.

Puppy Bitch (4,1).  1). Pearce & Francis’ Lonsgdale’s Sandra Dee. Very pretty with broad, wedge head and dark oval eye. Very mature in body. Almost square in outline. Good angulations front and rear. High set tail. Needs to drop in brisket. Moved straight, with good extension and drive. BP. 2). Moon’s Galvizach Ellexia. Another pretty bitch . Excellent skull to muzzle proportions, small, triangular ear, well set on head. A little round in eye. Moderate neck , good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Well off for bone. Front pasterns are a little loose at present. Longer cast than 1. Good turn of stifle. Moved well but a little narrow behind. Well-presented harsh coat.  3). Pearce & Francis’ Longsdale’s One That I Want.

Junior Bitch (1). 1). Bradbury’s Wychlea Purple Image. As one would expect from this kennel, another fabulous example of the breed. Not overdone in any way, she is perfectly balanced presenting a near perfect outline. Pretty, wedge head tapering into a well-balanced muzzle. Small, well placed triangular ears. Moderate neck into well laid shoulder . Forechest developing well. Still needs to drop in brisket. Straight in front, neat feet. Well ribbed up and firm in body. Excellent proportions to rear quarters with moderate turn of stifle. On the move she holds her topline well, moving  with  typical brisk, ground covering action as befits her construction. Enough coat to complete the picture. Pleased to award her CC & BOB.

Post Graduate Bitch (5, 3). 1). Chamber’s Manzamas made With Pride (Imp). Lovely outline, stands perfectly four square. Strong in body with good bone. Beautiful head with well-balanced muzzle.  Moderate neck, excellent front and rear assemblies. In excellent condition and well-muscled. High set tail. Moved well in all directions maintaining a level topline.  2). Bradbury’s Wychlea In The Purple. Another strong, well bodied bitch, longer cast than 1. Lovely head and typical expression.  Not quite so settled on the move as 1 but responded well to handler. Straight coming and going. Not in full coat, but has the desired harsh texture..

Limit Bitch (5, 3)  1). Andrew & Andrew’s Claran Daydreaming. Excellent head and expression. Firm body, with good overall body proportions, but would prefer her slightly shorter in loin. Good angulations to front and rear assemblies with well let down hocks. Moved purposefully with good extension and drive.  Not in full coat today but good texture to coat. 2). Griffith’s Cyfelin Pease Blossom. Broad feminine wedge head with broad muzzle. Very neat triangular ear. Broad through body and well ribbed up. Moderate bone, good angulations front and rear. In good coat, slightly soft texture. Moved well, slightly narrow behind.

Open Bitch (5,2)  1). Rogerson’s Nosregor Lies ‘n’ Deceet. Mature black in full bloom. Beautiful head and expression. Small, well placed triangular ears and dark oval eye. Excellent bone, strong pasterns. Very strong through body, high set tail. Moved out well in profile, slightly wide coming towards. In full gleaming coat. Presented well to show off her virtues. Pushed the hard in the challenge.  2). Hill’s Cyfelin Solitaire. Broad but feminine skull. Dark eye, a little bold. Excellent through body, slightly longer cast that 1. Excellent angulation front and rear which showed on the move. Moved out well in all directions, covering the ground well. Not in full coat but has good harsh texture. 3). Bamford’s Applebanks April Showers At Hazdawn.                                                                        Niki Allison (Judge)
