Critique
Many thanks to the ladies of the WELKS committee for the invitation to judge both sizes of German Spitz at their well organised show which was blessed with wonderful weather and heralded the start of the summer show season. As always I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the German Spitz and was very pleased with the overall quality. The German Spitz exhibitors are a sporting group of people and I was delighted to see everyone supporting the winners.
GERMAN SPITZ (KLEIN)
JD 2(1)
1. Hill’s Xanto Z Temnych Noci (imp CZE). Quality red dog who immediately impresses with his overall shape. A compact square dog with a very pleasing headpiece of correct overall proportions and with sufficient breadth of skull. Small well set ears, clean through the cheek, good neck into correct shoulder placement. Has lovely bone and feet. Good rib and level top-line, correctly set tail which is well covered with coat of correct texture. Overall a nice size. Pleasing in side profile although could be a fraction tidier going away. A nice start to the entry.
PGD 3(1)
1. Trendle/Hill’s Fecimus We’re On The Ball. Quality black male, who is correct for size and compactness and overall proportions. He has the most exquisite headpiece with correct wedge shaped skull, lovely small well placed ear. Good oval shaped eye correctly obliquely set and of good dark colour with good pigmented rims. Cean through the neck into well placed shoulders. Of good bone and with excellent small cat like foot. Correct top-line and well set tail. Correctly moderately angulated at the rear. Moved well both coming and going and looked a picture in side profile. He is carrying too much coat which does obscure his well made body shape, a little less coat might do him more justice.
2. Hall’s Crystalclear Bobbee Dazzler (IKC). Another nice typical Klein male. Pleasing head and expression. Head is of correct overall proportions and he has well placed high set ear, well set eyes and is clean through the cheek. Slightly deeper in stop than the first placed dog and I would prefer a slightly smaller ear if I am to be hypercritical. Superb front assembly, well ribbed, correct tuck up, strong in top-line, good rear. Moved very well, in excellent coat and good hard condition.

1. Grayer’s Ch. Radajasas Henri Fiocca at Delgray. It’s no surprise that I liked this dog today as I previously gave him BOB when I judged the breed at Southern Counties some 2 years ago. My opinion of him hasn’t changed in the slightest. I think he is a beautiful specimen of the breed. He is the correct size, he is compact, has the correct almost square outline and is very typically Spitz in head. He has the most exquisite expression. This white dog has beautiful pigmentation, the most lovely overall shaped eye, correctly set obliquely and not too wide apart. Small, well set, correctly shaped ears which he carries correctly. Overall, his head proportions are correct, he has a correct moderate stop. Lovely neck of correct length into well placed shoulders. He is good at the elbow and his overall body proportions are ideal. He is well ribbed up and in good hard condition. Excellent top-line despite his age and well high set tail, well covered. Good angulation at the rear. This dog has a super double coat with a very harsh top coat covering him. Good cape and good feathering both in the forelimb and in the hindquarters. He is of correct size. Lovely in profile, could be a fraction more accurate moving away. Very pleasing front action. I found nothing to beat him in this entry. I think he is a fabulous specimen of the breed and I was delighted to see him again, BD & BOB.
2. Andrew’s Claran Edge of Glory. Black, this young male really impressed me. Slightly different in style to the winner, this young black male screamed Spitz at me when I saw him on the table. Going over him he is very correct. He has a very pleasing headpiece with good breadth of skull which is flat and correctly wedge shaped through. He is clean through the cheek and has a lovely dark eye, correctly placed and small well set ear. Good front assembly and well ribbed up. A very compact young male. Nicely angulated at the rear and with lovely bone. Delightful small cat like foot. He has a super coat of good texture with good undercoat. He was very close up to the winner and I am sure this young dog will do well. A lovely mover and I was pleased to have him today, RBD. In my opinion, he should attain his crown. 3. Francis/Pearce/Williams/Davies’ Longsdale’s Dance With Me Trebettyn JW.

1. Trendle’s Lusam Toodle Pip ShCM. 15 year old bitch, lovely head and expression, pleased me for her overall make and shape. Correct square outline. Pleasing head proportions and well set ears of correct size. Correct eye of nice dark colour. Good through the neck and shoulder. Well ribbed up and carrying a little too much in the way of coat. Would prefer a slightly higher set tail. The tail however is straight and well covered with hair of good harsh texture. Well bodied up, good bone and nice tight feet for her age. Not using her tail as best she could which did detract from the overall picture. However a quality bitch who pleased me for her overall size, shape and headpiece, RBB & BV.
2. Kettlewhite’s Jayfeather Partilight. Up to size bitch, however overall proportions are pleasing. Preferred the head and expression on the first placed bitch and would prefer her ears a little higher set if I am being hypercritical, lovely neck and good shoulder, super bone and feet, well ribbed with appropriate tuck up, good strong top-line and moved well.

1. Green’s Fecimus Its Going Home at Grovevalley. This is a lovely dark cream who immediately impressed me. A young bitch but has all the qualities to take her to the top. I liked her for her overall size and shape. She is a compact bitch of good substance yet in no way is she anything but feminine. Head is of overall correct proportions. She has a beautiful dark eye which is nicely obliquely set and rims are dark. Her ears are as required, small, triangular and set high, she carries them well. Enough neck into well placed shoulders. She has a good front assembly and nice at the elbow. Strong in pastern. Overall body proportions are correct, strong loin, moderate tuck up. Well ribbed. Nicely angulated at the rear and the most lovely cat foot. She has a typical coat of good harsh texture. She is clean coming and going and has a lovely brisk action in profile retaining her top-line. I thought her very nice indeed and was an easy decision for BB.
2. Beck’s Rosco’s Breeze. Another pleasing bitch for overall size, shape and quality, head of correct proportions and good small ear, correctly set. I would prefer her eye a little more oval and a little less prominent if I am being hypercritical. I would also like a little less depth to her stop. Her front assembly is textbook and she has a good top-line and well set tail. Nicely angulated both fore and rear. Well ribbed. Moved very well. A nice bitch.
