Critique

It is 4 years since I judged Mittel Spitz. I would love to be able to say there has been a general improvement – but there hasn’t! Movement still leaves much to be desired, the poor front movement of the short stepping pitter-patter sewing machine action is still prevalent. I found only three with missing PMs. They were not penalised but it needs watching, before we have winners with multiple missing PMs. No bad bites. Two with character failings. I was criticized for moving the dogs “so much”! Surely any dog, Spitz or whatever, should be able to complete a couple of laps of the ring. It was interesting to note many moved better in their second lap than their first!
Minor Puppy - Dog
1st King’s Grizwold Loki . Orange. Good general appearance, firm and self-assured. Correct head with well carried ears, has a good coat and dark pigment. Quite sound coming and going. Level topline with good proportions. Good hindquarters. A touch short in upper arm, which could be more sloping, this is reflected in his front reach which could be better. Gait otherwise quite good.
2nd Orr’s Sobriety Born To Be Wild. Lemon and white parti-colour. Not so firm in condition as winner and a tad longer in couplings. Medium sized, good head with good eyes and ears. Very shapely with correctly angled quarters. Good bone, legs and feet. Moved soundly and fairly well.
3rd Williams’ Grizwold Lohengrin At Druitz
Puppy - Dog
1st O' Leary’s Amoyalois Rufus 'N A F'. Grey sable and white parti with lovely dark mask. Just short of one year. On the upper limits of the standard, but not over. Lovely head, medium ears which are well carried. Dark eyes of correct shape and size. Full of attitude and looks straight at you! Very good forehand and hindquarters, nicely ribbed up with a good level topline which he retains in movement. Correct proportions, stands true and square, as one would expect from one so well put together. When collected showed very good movement with plenty of reach and drive. Quite sound coming and going. All in all a very nice puppy, I shall watch his career with interest. Best puppy and I understand shortlisted in the puppy group.
2nd Orr’s Sobriety Jack Daniels. Cream, looked somewhat immature against the winner, but then he is 4 months younger. 8 months, pretty dog with quality and of good type, correct head, eye and ears. Very good pigment and dark eyes. Good bone, legs and feet. Good proportions and quarters. Needs to firm up, as though he moved with a good enough stride, he rolled on his back. Sound coming and going.

1st O' Leary’s Amoyalois Rufus 'N A F'.
Post Graduate - Dog
1st Davies’ Nixtev Serylius. 1 3/4 years cream. Good topline, proportions and balance. Needs more length and slope to upper arm and is slightly steep in shoulder. Head proportions correct, but would like him slightly more masculine, in general I would also like a shade more of him. Shown in good coat and condition. Sound.
2nd Mulholland’s Zephon The Last Samurai. Black, again good coat and condition. A bit wild and difficult to assess. His head is correct with good ears and well-shaped eyes. Good quarters. More bone would further improve. Toed in going away.
Limit - Dog
1st Garbutt’s Nixtev Torvald. 19 months white. Presents a very attractive picture, with almost square proportions. Very good masculine head, excellent eyes and well carried ears. Good neck flowing into good forehand with balanced hindquarters. Beautiful bone, legs and feet. Needs, as yet, a touch more coat and maturity. Very sound and tidy mover.
2nd Hughes & Forrester’s Druitz Welsh Wizard At Candease. 3 years orange sable of very good type. Masculine and strong. Correct head proportions with good ears, unfortunately rather round in eye which detracts from the overall picture. He has good shoulders, strong back and loin, almost square. Good hindquarters, very good mover and absolutely sound.
3rd Mulholland’s Zephon The Last Samurai
Open - Dog
1st Garbutt’s Nixtev Polarize. Three years cream/white dog of strong masculine appearance and very good type. Quality coat and furnishings with strong black pigment. Correct proportions and balanced. He has good bone, though his pasterns could to advantage be a tad stronger. Good quarters, topline and tailset, well carried, well curled tail. Moved very well in a co-ordinated manner. Dog CC.
2nd Williams’ Ch Druitz Black Prince. Black. Lots to like about this medium sized very typy dog. Correct in head, ears, eyes a touch round, slightly short in upper arm. Compact smart dog with neat feet, good bone and general shape. Presented in good condition and coat. Good quarters and high set well carried tail. Moved well and true, coming and going. Res CC.

Minor Puppy - Bitch
1st Garbutt’s Oh My God Av Ostretunet (Imp Nor). 8 months cream. Attractive puppy of good type. Correct in head, ears and eyes. Nicely angulated quarters with good overline, tailset and carriage. Very good bone, legs and feet. A well put together puppy who is still a baby. Moved well and is quite true coming and going.
2nd Rayment’s Grizwold Lady Of The Lake. Extreme white with very good pigment. Pretty bitch with lovely feminine head, well carried ears and good dark eyes which are well shaped. Good fore and hindquarters, lively temperament. A bit restricted in gait. Would like her a bit stronger all through.

1st Rayment’s Grizwold Lady Of The Lake
Junior - Bitch
1st Purves’ Bulabs Leading Lady. Cream, upper middle size and on the heavy side. Another pretty bitch of good quality and type. Good bone, legs and feet. Well shaped with nice quarters. Well set and carried tail. Moved quite nicely and sound.
2nd Mulholland’s Zephon Akane. Sable, medium sized of good type. Correct head proportions though ears to advantage could be a shade smaller. Nice dark eyes, quite shapely. Lost out on character to the winner. Will do better when she improves in this respect.
Post Graduate - Bitch
1st Clewer’s Spellcast Tell A Tail At Bullbo. Medium sized black. Head is quite good but ears on the large side. Good type, bone, legs and feet. A bit steep in shoulder and short in upper arm, nevertheless moved quite well and sound. Good hind quarter, topline which she retained in movement.
2nd Hamer’s Dagsljus Uptown Girl Of Clarmer (Imp). Smallish very typy black with good proportions, forehand and hindquarters. Shown in good coat and condition. Side gait good but not so sound as winner going away.
3rd Pooley’s Spellcast Talking Secrets With Azkaban
Limit - Bitch
1st Blight’s Flamuna Curtain Call For Rosechow. Medium sized black in hard dry condition. Attractive head, with good eyes and well carried ears. Good forehand and well angulated behind. Good feet and bone. Nice and square and very self-assured. Moved very well from the side but a touch close going away. RCC
2nd King’s Druitz Cariad Bach Of Grizwold. Brown pigmented orange. A little round in eye, head otherwise good. Nice and square in proportions with good quarters. Good bone, legs and feet. A firm hard bitch with very good movement again, a bit close going away and toed in coming.

Open - Bitch
1st Orr’s Ch Pufnstuf Put A Spell On You At Sobriety. Top size black in excellent coat and condition. Very good typy head of correct proportions. Lovely eyes and expression. Moderately sized ears which are well carried. Very good quarters, stands square with a good topline, well carried, well set tail. Excellent bone, legs and feet. Moved very well, a shade close going away. CC and BOB.
2nd Williams’Druitz Follow That Dream. Brown, medium sized. Good feet, sufficient bone. Good proportions, good coat. Rather forward place shoulder and needs a tad more length of second thigh. Moved quite well in side gait but a bit erratic going away.
3rd Hamer’s Ir Ch Wyndlee Silver Lightning Of Clarmer Ir Jr Ch
Veteran - Bitch
1st King’s Grizwold Inabikari. 9 years sable. Though a bit out of coat, very athletic and fit. Good type, head, ears and general shape. Light footed and enthusiastic in her movement. Sound.
