GERMAN SPITZ - MITTEL
Having attended the effective launch of Wendy Boorer’s fabulous extended illustrated breed standard at an assessment by the German Spitz CLub in 2005, and replicated at the JDP in 2014, I am indebted to the Welsh KC for this opportunity to award CCs for the first time. Just 12 of the original 18 were present and I appreciated your patience, and the work of the ring stewards, coping with the time the previous judge took and the onset of the rain that drove us indoors halfway through.
MPD (1) 1 Francis, Pearce & Roberts’ Longsdale’s Rebel Rouser At Cwrtafon. Just 8 mths yet I knew on sight he had ‘set the standard’ for the day and my judging book says ‘Fab’, gave me moderation and balance, so correct in both head and body proportions with the former a narrowing wedge and the latter being almost square, oblique eye, ears well set on broad skull, outstandingly straight and brisk coming and going courtesy of matching moderate angles on good bone and feet, abundant, youthful coat of sufficient outer harsh texture, high tail set and carriage completed this stunning picture and I suspect I will be boring quite a few in the coming years with this ‘I started him off’ story. DCC, BOB and BPIB.
LD (2, 1) 1King’s Gronw October Moon Over Grizwold. Two and a half yrs, fitted well under the measure and is of a good type with much to like, albeit a real fidgit, lovely eye, if a touch deep in stop and relatively short in muzzle, loved his squareness and his balanced moderate angles, beautifully firm in front and an excellent tail carriage gave a very pleasing outline as he circuited.
OD (5, 2) 1 Rogerson & Mulholland’s Fisherbloom Black Shamen With Nosregor. Two and a half yrs, excellent breed type and so very correct to go over, short where he needs to be, moderate and balanced where he needs to be; oblique eye, excellent ear, correct double coat, brisk moving with excellent outline, albeit runs a little close in rear, clearly of champion quality as marked by Res DCC. 2 King’s Ch Grizold Loki. Six and a half yrs, another of excellent breed type, broad skull, correct in eye, ear and muzzle, well knit, good tail set, abundant double coat, moved out brisk and true, just that bit heavier set all through and notably in forehand, given the age disparity. 3 Roberts’ Ch Longsdale’s Turning Tables At Cwtafon.
PB (2, 1) 1 Chapman’s CLamers Treacle Toffee At Kitsune. 11 mths, very feminine and of good shape and structure so as to be beautifully straight on the move, albeit as the heavens opened, prefer eye a shade darker and less fine in muzzle, kept a good outline, well coated, shown to advantage and is sure to benefit from added maturity.
JB (1) 1 Hewett’s Spellcast Talking Point (ai). 15 mths, may not have been in her best coat but this only showed us her balanced, well knit proportions and her correct leg length, firm topline and well set and carried tail, lovely wedge shaped head, eye a tad round, excellent ear, can firm in action that is still loose in front and close in rear but fully expect the matured finished article, duly coated and firmed up to make her presence felt.
PGB (1) 1 Drechsler’s Longdale’s New Addition. Two and a half years, good type, broad skull with well set ears, if a little full in eye, beautifully moderate and balanced in her angulation, well set and carried tail, a touch long cast, looked good as she circuited, albeit could be more positive behind and did come on rather wide.
LB (2) 1 Rogerson’s Nosregor Lullabye. Just turned 18 mths and not in full bloom but all is present and correct to illustrate what the future holds once coated up. She scores in her proportions, her balance, her limited angulation and her virtual squareness, lovely head with moderate stop, oblique eye and small, well set ears, firm in front and firm at hock, good tail set and carriage, rated her now as champion quality as marked by Res BCC. 2 Chapman’s Clamers Little Banshee At Kitsune. 2 yrs, of obvious potential with a fuller eye and very much between coats, the shape and proportions are all there whether through head or body, wedge shaped head and well knit body, briskly stylish on the move with firm rear, albeit rather wide in front, excellent tail carriage, this young handler, not only readily acted on the advice offered but subsequently accepted the reasoning for the placing with an understanding beyond her years, the German Spitz breed can only benefit if she keeps her interest.
OB (2) 1 Conway & Oakden’s Fisherbloom Moon River. Rising 4 yrs, full sister to Res DCC, really good to go over, albeit would prefer a touch more leg length, lovely clean wedge with excellent eye and ear, well ribbed, short loin and moderate tuck up so as to be almost square, well set, relatively short neck into a clean front with moderate angulation as matched at rear, straight brisk mover with a double coat in full bloom, high set curled over back tail completed the picture, shown to advantage to take BCC, her second in a week evidently. 2 King’s Zephon Akana. 7 yrs old, half sister, full in eye and larger in ear, not as compact but beautifully double coated and conditioned, correctly moderate and balanced in angulation, correctly carried and curled tail, enviable brisk true movement. BVIB.
