Critique
My thanks to the German Spitz Club of GB for the invitation to judge the 26th Championship show, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Breed clubs are the backbone of all breeds and their shows should be about bringing together the very best exhibits for all to appreciate and admire, no matter the differences between the people. It shows the strength not only of the organising club but the breed and it’s future prospects. I found the show to be well organised and a lovely atmosphere. The last time I judged the club’s show was before the breed received C. C status, the entry was enormous in Klein and Mittel and the quality high. Times have changed in all breeds and we all should be grateful that we can continue to get enjoyment from what to most is a hobby. Today I felt Mittel to be the far stronger size both in numbers and quality, I hope they soon become equal. It was also pleasing that I did not find one case of slipping patella. I was extremely pleased with both line ups in the respective challenges and looking at the veterans demonstrates they are a long lasting and amazing show dog. My thanks to my most efficient steward, I wish the breed and you all every success for the future.
Mittel Dogs
Vet (2,1) Saich’s Ir Ch Lindcoly Mischief Maker. 10-year-old presented in excellent condition. Head balanced, flat skull, eye a tad bold, ears small, nice shape and well set. Overall balance excellent with level topline and tailset. Excellent muscle tone, correct front and rear quarters correct bone and feet. Moves correctly front, rear and side. 2 Barnes & King’s, Ch Spellcast Talk with me by Izlou. 9- year-old, like winner a shade bold in expression but again does have correct head dimensions with nice ear set. Ample neck that does balance overall outline, level topline and body depth. Moves true. Two quality males and my placings rested with winners better feet and ring presence.
P (1) Saich’s, Lindcoly My Rockafella. 10 mth that now needs to settle to the job in hand on the table. First impression oversize but way under. Nice head shape and balance, good bite and underjaw. Nice shape eyes and ears all giving sweet feminine expression. Moves true.
J (1) 1/ Blight’s Longsdale’s Take It Easy. 13 mth youngster and another that needs to settle more to the job in hand. Nice overall head despite a tad heavy in stop, nice shaped dark eye, and sized ears that seem well set. Outline balanced, good topline and depth of body with short loin. Moderate rearquarters, tidy front, tight elbows and straight front legs on tidy, correct feet. One who I feel will move better when more settled to showing himself off.
G (3,1) 1 Drechsler’s Longsdale’s Derun Around at Jeansway. Pleasing well constructed14 mth youngster. Nice balanced well shaped head, scores well in eye for shape and colour. Ears of nice size, shape and set. Overall balance and outline good. Not overdone in rear or forequarters with nice bone, tight feet. Just requires now to settle more on the move. 2 Saich’s Lindcoly Will I Am. Another 14 mth with correct balanced head nice ear shape and setting thus giving true breed expression. Like winner good balance front and rear quarters all giving nice outline, excellent feet correct bone. Again in movement needs to settle to job in hand. Felt on the day winner a shade tighter in elbow which also showed up in movement.
L (3,1) 1 Andrew’s Jericho Rapidamente Daraydala (Imp Pol) Excellent head piece and alert expression. Overall balanced, good topline and tail set all giving a good side profile. Moderate angulated rear with muscle tone. Front spot on, elbows tight, moderate bone but would like better shaped feet. Moved sound and true from front and rear and covered ground with ease in side profile. 2 Rogerson’s Cadasaro Georgie with Nosregor (IKC) 2-year-old not in the best of coats which shows his qualities off even more. Nice overall head balance with correct eye, ear size sand set. Good overall body balance with correct depth, level topline. Strong rear, tight elbows excellent feet. I felt could have moved better both front and rear which today cost him. 3 Taylor’s Tispitza’s Futterwacken
O (3,1) 1 Pearce, Francis & Roberts, Ch Longsdales Rebel Rouser at Cwrtafon JW. RCC. 6-year-old presented in immaculate condition body and coat. I feel he as really come into his own with maturity since I last judged him. Masculine wedge head and lovely eye and expression. Liked his overall balance, topline, tailset. Nice firm rear quarters, excels in shoulder, elbows tight nice front and feet. Moves true from side, front and rear. In the challenge today just lost out to the winners more natural freedom of movement. 2 O’Leary’s Cadasaro Gerhard. Quality 2-year-old very nice head of correct shape, excellent in eye, ear shape and expression. Correct neck that runs correctly into body, level topline and high set tail. Excellent body balance nice depth, short loin. Good rear and forequarters tight front correct for bone. Rear movement excellent but today lost out to winner on feet and front movement. 3 Chapman’s Kitsune Notorious (AI)
Ch (3,1) 1 Barnes & King’s Ch Izlou Shiver Me Timbers. Immaculate 6-year-old who today could not put a foot wrong. To me he represents German Spitz quality. Most appealing, balanced head, correct eyes and ear with best of settings and all giving a very correct breed expression. Presented in an abundance of coat that on the ground I felt made him look unbalanced, which made me re-examine back on the table. This confirmed my first table examination that he does indeed have perfect body height ratio. Super moderate and well muscled rear quarters, excellent front construction, tight elbow correct bone, front and feet. Out moved all others today and with his excellent presentation and style I felt him most worthy of the C.C, B.O.B and Best in Show. 2 Blight’s Ch/ir/int Ch Izlou Float Ma Boat. Another quality 6-year-old male that portrays the breed in head and expression. Like the winner he possesses excellent overall balance, scores in rear and forequarters and he made up a lovely trio of males that were in the running for the C.C. Today he just lost out on movement to my final winners.

Vet (1) 1 Moir & Moir & Mackenzie’s Ch Jansanleis Mayhem JW VW. Delighted to judge once again this 14-year-old that has graced the ring right from a puppy. I judged her last as a 10-year-old, that day her coat was suited more for naked attraction than the show ring but quality stands out, coat comes back and that day she took the RCC. Today shown in better coat, she still looks and shows amazing. Her head defines the breed, superb body balance, holds topline standing and moving, correct moderate hindquarters and a front construction that has not gone heavy with the years. At 14-years-old she is a credit to the breed and owners and is still able to push hard for top awards. Handled and presented to advantage by her skilled young handler. BVIB and ultimately BVIS
P (3,2) 1 O’Leary’s, Cadasaro Hanna. 10 mth, with a balanced feminine head, moderate stop, flat skull, nice eyes and ear shape and sweet expression. Correct bite and underjaw. Good overall balance, topline rear and forequarters, excellent feet. Now needs to settle on the move and tighten in front.
J (3,1) 1/ Taylor’s, Tispitza’s Avada Kedavra. 14 mth youngster pleasing in head, expression and balance. Ample neck for overall balance and outline. Correct topline, body depth and tail set. Moderate angulation, excellent front, tight elbows tidy feet. Moved true and with a natural freedom. 2 Saich’s Lindcoly My Cinderella. Good neck and length to height balance, holds level topline and nice tail set.On the day I preferred winner’s head and expression but liked very much this girls eyes and ears set. Needs to tighten in movement both ways.
PG (5,2) 1 Nicholls, Izlou Muffin Compares for Shyllar. 23 mth that still lacks a shade in maturity. Head is feminine and balanced with correct stop, eye shape could be better. Flat skull, correct ear set. Excels in body balance which does have nice depth, topline firm, tailset and hindquarters good. Nice front construction, won class on movement. 2 Barnes and King’s Izlou the Truffle Maker. Nearly 3-years-old and not in best of coats. Near correct for head balance, nice dark eyes, ears of nice size and shape. Neck fitting into nicely shaped body, holds topline, moderate hindquarters. Correct for bone tight elbows, today felt winner had advantage in movement and foot shape. 3 Purves Kitsune Cream Fudge.
L (5,2) 1 Hutchings-Brooks & Brooks & Hutchings & Hutchings Jansanleis The Magic Piper with Jenerelena. Almost 3-year-old presented in firm body condition and good coat. Appealing wedge shaped head, moderate stop, correct underjaw and pigmentation. Excellent eye colour, flat skull, correct ear shape nicely set and used. Overall balance body shape and body depth, rear angulation excellent Best mover in class and considered in the challenge. Her day will come. 2 Barnes & King’s Izlou Gossip Girl JW. Feminine balanced wedge head, nice eye and expression, nice ear shape well set and used. Nice for overall balance, angulation, bone and excellent forequarters with tight elbows and correct feet. Not in the best of jackets today and felt she could move better in both directions. 3 Saich’s Lindcoly Shes a Knockout.
O (4,2) 1 Moir & Moir & Mackenzie’s Jansanleis Rave JW. Quality coming 3 years, most feminine head, nice eye, ear shape and good pigmentation. Do like her overall balance body depth, topline, tailset and lovely outline. Muscled moderate hindquarters plus correct forequarters, tight elbows, straight front. Moves correct and with purpose and freedom which today won her the C.C, her 3rd I understand, congratulations I’m sure more will follow. 2 Barnes & King’s, Izlou Mustard Been Love. 5-year-old with very pretty balanced head and super expression. Neck runs a correct line into body that is of correct balance and depth, level topline, nice set tail, correct muscled hindquarters. Do like her shoulders and overall front, excellent feet. Little to choose between top two and I considered on the day winner just had the edge in rear movement. Very pleased to award her the Res C.C. 3 O’Leary’s Cadasaro Dreams Big.
