Critique

It is 3 years since I last judged German Spitz Mittel and I hoped that they had improved but unfortunately I was very disappointed. Rear movement was really bad on dogs, bitches were slightly better. Young dogs coming up are showing signs of this poor movement and they are the future of the breed. If this breed is to survive then breeders need to look at the construction of the animal.

When looking at parents you need to take care that the line is of sound construction. The quality of the dog is very more important. If something is not done soon about these construction problems then as the years progress we will have badly constructed animals with not hope of good movement. The Open Dog class was a very strong class but these are not so young animals and therefore are not the future of the breed. Bitches on the whole seemed to have less rear movement faults.

But there were some along with straight shoulders and steep upper arms. The breeders need to take a serious look. Going on 3 years previous the breed has certainly gone down hill, which to me is heartbreaking. I write these comments as a concerned breed person. What happened to all our lovely well constructed dogs of years gone by? Why is no one looking at how the breed used to be and trying again to produce these quality animals? There are some really good quality dogs in the breed but breeders nee to seek them out in the breeding programme for the future of this breed.

MPD. (2). 1. Powell’s, Desaria Bobbi Brown at Brookwell. Nice brown puppy, long in body. Good head, good eye, good earset and correct mouth. Excellent coat of good texture. Moved out well, good coming and going. 2. Purves’s, Rossfort Xcel Among Bulabs. White with lovely compact body. Good pigment, well set ears, clean eye of correct shape. Rear movement not as good as winner.

PD. (2). 1. Beard’s, Wyndlee Chandera Spectre. Gold dog with good body shape. Slightly longer that I would like. Lovely head with correct ear set. Lovely dark eye, good mouth. Well set tail. Excellent movement front and rear. BP. 2. Powell’s, Desaria Blue Print at Brookwell. Sable dog with firm body. Nice overall shape. Good head with good clear eye, correctly positioned ears. Moved well.

JD. (4). 1. Beard’s, Wyndlee Blue Horizon. Lovely blue dog with good compact body of excellent shape. Lovely head and expression, dark eye, good mouth. Good textured coat. Moved well coming and going. 2. Chamber’s, Musique Executive Decision. Sable dog with firm body. Good head, dark eye and good mouth. Would have preferred a little more neck. Moved well. 3. Mulholland’s, Umshumbwe Faccia Die Angelo.

PGD. (6). 1. Hunter’s, Rossfort Eldorado. Lovely black dog with superb compact body. Lovely wedge head, dark eye and good shape. Good well placed ears. Super outline. Good tailset. Neat feet. Lovely correct black coat. Very good movement. Should have a good future. RCC. 2. Thurston’s, Rossfort Caractaus. White of good construction. Firm body. Good head, good dark pigment, well placed ears. Coat of correct texture. Moved well. 3. Durham’s, Stillmoor Durham Addition.

LD. (7). 1. Hewitt’s, Runfold Full Frottle with Spellcast JW. Lovely brown with good firm body with compact shape. Wedge head with well set ears. Well placed eye but slightly lighter than I would like. Moved out well. Super specimen. 2. Duke and Gardner’s, Galvizach Oakley Adams. Black dog well balanced. Very nice wedge head, correct well placed dark eyes, good ears. Good overall proportions. Winner had the edge on movement. 3. Heslop’s, Nixtev Fyreblade.

OD. (9). 1. Blight’s, Ch. Rosechow Cappachino. Orange well constructed dog of excellent quality. Good head of correct proportions. Lovely eye of correct shape. Well placed ears, good mouth. Lovely coat of good texture. Neat feet. Superb outline. Excellent movement. CC. 2. Beard’s, Wyndlee Ghost in My House. Another lovely dog. Cream of good construction. Good wedge head. Lovely eye, good ear set and correct mouth. Superb coat. Moved very well. Pushed winner hard. Two lovely examples of the breed. 3. Hunter’s, Nemo Aus Dem Norden (Imp).

MPB. (3). 1. Thurston’s, Rossfort Xanadu. Lovely puppy. Just a baby, very nice body shape. Good wedge head. Good mouth. Nice ear set, lovely dark eye. Needs to settle on movement but should mature up nicely.

PI. (2). 1. Beard’s, Wyndlee Chandera Dotty Dotty. Black and white pretty bitch with lovely head. Good firm body. Lovely dark eye, well set ears. Full of life. Movement needs to settle down. 2. Garbutt’s, Nixtev Inara. Sable bitch with good body shape. Good head with dark eye and good ear placement. Not as confident as winner. Moved well.

PGB. (3). 1. Robert’s, Veratina Bonnie Blue. Black bitch with firm body. Slightly longer than I would like. She was out of coat which did not help. Good head shape, lovely dark eye and well placed ears. Moved well front and rear. 2. Purves’s, Bulbas Truly Scrumptious. Cream bitch with compact body. Good head shape, good pigment, dark eye. Neat feet. Lost to winner on movement.

LB. (10). 1. Butler’s, Phixons Mizz Kizzi. Beautiful black bitch with firm compact body. Lovely Spitz wedge shaped head. Super dark eye, well set small ears, good mouth. Lovely coat of correct texture. Small neat feet. Super outline. Excellent movement. A super example of the breed. CC and BOB. 2. Blight’s, Rosechow Chantilly Lace. Sable of good type, good firm body. Good wedge head, well set ears, lovely dark eyes, good mouth. Good textured coat. Overall good shape. Very good movement. Another excellent specimen. RCC. 3. Powell’s, Desarai Fanny Ann at Brookwell.

OB. (6). 1. Garbutt’s, Ch. Runfold China Crisis at Nixtev. Cream bitch with good firm compact body. Lovely head with dark eye, correct mouth. Good pigment. Well set ears. Lovely coat of correct texture. Moved out well coming and going. 2. Sear’s, Ch. Desaria Desire. Brown bitch of good type. Good firm body, good wedge head, dark eye, well positioned ears, good mouth. Overall good proportions. Moved well coming and going. Two lovely bitches. 3. Rogerson’s, Ch/Ger Ch. Shelayne Minstrel Show.
