Critique
The German Spitz Club held its 10th CH show at the Sports Connexion, Ryton-on-Dunsmore with excellent entries in both Mittels and Kleins. My co-judge Bob Gregory & I had no problems agreeing that the black Klein, Ch Wychlea Ludo at Stonelight should be BIS; RBIS & BOB Mittel went to Ch Druitz Corncracker for Teamspitz; BP Wyndlee Ghostly Magic, a precocious young Mittel who also got the RCC; & RBP a Klein,Tymy Tymex.
I found some of the lower classes quite difficult as type & size were rather varied.Quite a few were shown overweight & a bit soft in condition which affected movement.Temperaments were first class which I had anticipated as they are a breed happy & positive about life in general.
MITTELS
VD (2,1 a) 1 Day's Loki's Gold Ingot, 9 years & looking very well for his age, lively character, keen & interested in everything around him. Clean coat, well proportioned, attractive head, good bone & feet, brisk mover. Carrying a bit of extra weight.
MPD (5,1) 1 Smith's Wyndlee Ghostly Magic, 8 and half months cream, easy winner, gorgeous puppy, full of potential, good head & expression, excellent coat, body & condition, stylish showman, easily the best mover in this class, good topline & quarters, looked lovely when he came in for the challenge & fully deserved the RCC. A proper little star, well handled & presented. BP & RCC; 2 Mountain's Daraydala Fire Cracker at Hocombewood, 8 months smaller black, a little uncertain on the table but came into his own once on the floor. Moved & showed with confidence, well set tail, compact body, intelligent eyes, moved OK behind. Needs to firm up in front action. Once he gets a full coat will look quite a picture; 3 Hill's Sobriety Hot Chocolate.
PD (4) 1 Hewett's Spellcast Secrets And Lies, 10. months cream, up to size, all male, masculine & assertive, typical head, keen intelligent expression. lovely coat, firm body, excellent hindquarters & hind action, happy showman; 2 Beard's Wyndlee Huggy Bear, 11 months brown, intelligent showman, well proportioned, good tailset, dense coat, alert expression, well handled. Needs to strengthen in front movement; 3 Alfred's Liubice Just William.
JD (5,2) 1 Hunter's Rossfort Walk The Line, quality youngster of good type & size. dark eyes, intelligent expression, firm body, well conditioned, moved & showed quite well. Not in full coat, got a bit bored on the stack; 2 W Huggy Bear; 3 L Just William.
PGD (10,1) Not an easy class as quality was quite mixed. 1 Corkin's Nixtev Kinetic Under Fouranfass, black, pleasing head, moved well once he settled down, keen showman, bright & lively, clean silhouette, well fitting coat, clean & well presented, expertly handled; 2 Mulholland's Zephon Nebula Rubiestar, black, does not want to carry any more weight. Did well to settle down on the move after a bit of a disagreement with his neighbour who took a dislike to him. Well set & carried tail, dark expressive eyes, stylish showman; 3 Mclaren's Ichmoran Yakecan.
LD (13,3) Difficult class. 1 Dickinson's Nixtev Inferno, o/cream, exuberant & showy, full of goodwill with his outgoing personality, clean & well presented coat, good body, legs & feet, eager to please, attractive head.Tendency to pace but got his act together to win this big class; 2 Hill's Wyndlee Yin of Sobriety, b/w parti, quite glamorous & very pleased with himself, beautiful coat. Bit extravagant in front movement. Showed non stop, at one with his handler, good ribcage, typical head, well carried tail; 3 Thurston's Rossfort Caractacus from Liubice.
OD (12,2) 1 Chambers' Ch Druitz Corncracker for Teamspitz, 5 years cream, had to pull out all the stops to head this very good class & he did. Well balanced quality dog, in top form, splendid coat & finish, wedge shaped head, dark eyes, intelligent expression, well carried ears, well rounded ribcage, good bone, body & tailset, confident on the move, showed well throughout. Coat presented to the minute, beautifully clean'& well conditioned. CC,BOB &. RBIS; 2 Heslop's Nixtev Fyreblade, 6 years black, very showy & tuned into his handler, both standing & moving. good outline, topline & tailset, masculine head, strong quarters. I was interested to see that his dam, Ch Runfold China Crisis at Nixtev, had produced three class winners in LD, PGB & LB as well as Fyreblade's 2nd here so clearly an excellent brood bitch; 3 Hewetts's Ch Spellcast Talk To Me.
VB (5) 1 Garbutt's Ch Runfold China Crisis at Nixtev, not just a clever producer but a lovely & most worthy ch too. Nearly 9 years & looking fresh & focused, moved well & showed non stop, nicely proportioned, well coated & conditioned, feminine head & outlook, dark eyes, bang on form & really put on a performance in the challenge. No sign of even middle age creeping up on her. RCC; 2 Hewett's Runfold Eternal at Spellcast, 7 years b/t, half sister to 1 & a well proportioned smart looking bitch. Eager showgirl, good bone, legs & feet, quality head, keen intelligent expression, moved OK once she got into her stride; 3 Rogerson's Ir Ch Nosregor Cadberries Girl.
MPB (3,1) 1 Purves' Rossfort Griselda, just 6 months, pretty head, feminine & self-assured although I don't think she quite knew what this was all about. Well set tail, clean coat, moved better in front than 2 Mulholland & Beard's Wyndlee Lying Eyes between Zephon. like Griselda carrying quite a bit of puppy fat. 8months, very showy, attractive head & expression, well fitting coat, sympathetically handled. Needs to strengthen in movement allround.
PB (2)1 Hill's Wyndlee Sad Cafe, 9 months b/w parti, gassy showgirl, full of energy, well coated & bodied, pleasing head, dark bright eyes, moved well. BPB; 2 W Lying Eyes between Z.
JB (6,3) 1 O'Loughin's Caoilta Kit Kat, brown of good make & shape, feminine head, intelligent expression, good outline & quarters, easy mover, responded well to her handler, good coat; 2 Rolleston's Beaulion Amethyst at Kelham, cream, well proportioned. Eye stain spoils expression slightly & could have a stronger muzzle. Never stopped showing, moved OK,good ribcage. No more weight please; 3 Hunter's Rossfort Wendika.
PGB (10,3) Some plump bitches in this class. 1 Moir's Nixtev Liberty at Jansanleis, clean silhouette, best mover in this class, feminine head, lovely coat & condition, happy co-operative showgirl, expertly handled to look her very best; 2 Bray's Abbicher Lily Langtree, black, going a bit close behind. Well set & carried tail, typical head, good body & coat; 3 Day's Desaria Lotte.
LB (9,2) 1 Garbutt's Nixtev Lexis, white, litter sister to winner of PGB, extremely happy about it all constantly wagging her tail & demanding your full attention. Delightful personality, very clean & well presented coat, firm body, tail on top, moved well behind, dark eyes, keen expression; 2 Beard's Spilmah Penny Layne in Wyndlee, most attractive black, full of herself, feminine head & outlook, well fitting coat, clever showgirl Bit on the plump side but moved well; 3 Rogerson's Nosregor Lay Yr Love On Me.
OB (9,2) 1 Smith's Ch Desaria Destiny, my notes say 6 but the catalogue says 8 years. She was also BV so the latter must be correct. Engaging brown, full of energy, lively & intelligent with splendid silhouette, great showgirl, most typical head, feminine outlook, well fitting coat, firm topline & quarters, sound mover, well handled; 2 R Eternal at S; 3 Chambers' Ch Nosregor Bewitched for Musique.
