Critique

German Spitz Mittel

It is 3 years since I have judged the breed & I came away quite enthused. Some bites could be tighter & there is the odd conformation problem but nothing too extreme & there were many good square dogs with decent leg length so I felt profiles generally were much better. There was great variation in the heads with some quite narrow chiselled forefaces & some over strong back skulls both of which are incorrect but overall I was happy.

PD (3) 1    Beard’s Wyndlee Jester, brown boy with dense plush coat, lovely for bone & overall substance, very broad head, good bite, excellent croup & tailset, steady, brisk mover but needs to strengthen behind. BP; 2 O’Sullivan & Kennett’s Zephon Wizard Of Winter at Tyngeli, square & compact white with good body & strong coupling, very good rear action but tending to be wide in front. Lighter boned than 1 but still a promising prospect; 3 Mountain’s Daraydala Carlos at Hocombewood. JD (2) 1 Garbutt’s Nixtev Torvald, quality white, lovely to go over with dense bone & exceptional muscling, coat a bit sparse but has to be a good prospect; 2 Williams’ Galvizach Galatea at Druitz, square boy with good substance, very well laid shoulder with a lot in front of his legs when standing & moving. Rear action a bit extreme. PGD (4) 1 Wilson’s Nickila Silver Sovereign, wolf/s with very attractive colouring but lacking some undercoat, neat mover with good leg length, excellent tailset; 2 Saich’s Hocombewood Hot Toddy for Lindcoly, choc/s boy with great substance, very sound with everything in the right place but tending to a little overdone; 3 Drechsler’s Wyndlee Blowin In The Wind at Jeansway. LD (3) 1 Pooley’s Wyndlee Short N’ Sweet at Azkaban, smaller bLack male with white trim, lovely to go over on the table with good bone, good ribcage, short coupling & excellent condition, head tends to be a bit ‘kittenish’ but smallest of ears, seriously considered in the challenge; 2 Hewett’s Spellcast Shout About It, substantial chap with the most lovely head pattern, good leg length but tending to be long in the body, moving a little wide behind. Lot to like; 3 Williams’ Spellcast Talk To Da Paw at Trebettyn. OD (5) 1 Smith’s Spellcast Jivetalking, most beautiful square black dog with fabulous head & eye, lovely profile & compact to go over. Would prefer a slightly wider front & rear action but he uses his legs well & has a balanced side gait, coat profuse without obscuring the outline, screams ‘type’. CC & BOB; 2 Chambers’ Ch Musique Worth The Wait, different style of dog with huge, well prepared brown coat & slightly longer in body, carries the correct substance & bone, strong masculine head, moves very quickly & with a ground covering gait, quality dog. RCC; 3 Garbutt’s Nixtev Polarize.

PB (2) 1 Orr’s Rossfort Soba of Sobriety, nice girl with lovely body & coupling, good croup & tailset. Lacking undercoat & could have better bend of stifle; 2 Beard’s Wyndlee Jenny, sister to the PD winner & a lot of the same remarks apply. Sadly spooked & had to pay the penalty but a good bitch if she gets her act together. JB (3) 1 Garbutt’s Nixtev Tantalize, really fell for this girl, so good to go over, good ribcage, strong coupling, good rear structure & lovely croup & tailset, excellent pigmentation contrasting with her bright white coat, pretty head & ears to fit, steady mover eventually in the class but a bit too gassy in the challenge. CC; 2 Saich’s Bulabs Staring Stephenie for Lindcoly, slightly long in outline, body good but croup slightly sloping with tailset a little low, moving brightly & a lovely character. PGB (4) 1 Clewer’s Spellcast Tell A Tail at Bullbo, well handled black with good body & tail, in good coat, moving steadily. Could be squarer; 2 Williams’ Hocombewood Party Popper at Druitz, substantial o/s with lovely coat pattern, good profile, square & with good leg length. Rear movement lets her down; 3 Pooley’s Spellcast Talking Secrets with Azkaban. LB (4) 1 King’s Spellcast Talk To Da Tail, lovely square cream, excellent neck, level back & good tail, good mover, balanced but a little too much in the way of angles but still a quality girl. RCC; 2 Poultney’s Daraydala Diana Dors, o/s, looks a little long standing but carrying a lot of coat & weight, broad head & well placed ears, excellent for soundness; 3 Mountain’s Daraydala Pink Fizz at Hocombewood. OB (3) 1 Purves’ Ch Rossfort Griselda, ‘Miss Personality’ here stormed in the ring, stormed round it & was very hard to resist! In full coat, well presented & with dense pigment, probably longer than for preference but OK in most breed departments; 2 Williams’ Druitz Follow That Dream, good profile, square & compact, good to go over on the table with elbows tight to body, well developed front, broad head & well placed ears, excellent tailset, rear action could be steadier; 3 Orr’s Rossfort Andante with Sobriety.
