Critique
MITTEL – I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge at this well organised show, exhibitors for bringing their dogs under me & my excellent & efficient stewards. Although some classes were of mixed type I was pleased with all of my winners & both the open dog & open bitch classes were a delight with many very good exhibits unfortunately having to go card less. All went under the measure. Most mouths had the correct bite, only two iffy ones, & temperaments on the whole were good.
VD (2) 1 RCC, RBOB, BV & BVIS, Hewett’s Ch Spellcast Secrets And Lies, 8 year old cream. He has a strong male head without it being coarse. His nice black pigment combined with correct eyes gives a pleasing expression & he has neat triangular ears. He has well laid shoulder with a good straight front, leading to tight feet. His correct rear angulation helped to keep a true topline on the move. Well carried high set tail. Good quality harsh coat presented in excellent condition. In good hard body condition. Lovely substance & bone, which helped to show his square outline; 2 Corkin’s Ch Nixtev Kinetic under Fouranfass, 10 year old black of smaller type & carrying his age well. His eye is of a nice dark colour but is a little round in shape. He retains a well made & muscled body covered by a gleaming coat. He moved soundly in all areas.
MPD (1) 1 RBPD, Saich’s Hocombewood Ace Of Spades at Lindcoly, black 6 month black baby enjoying his first show. His body is well made with good rib & short loin giving correct proportions. He has a pleasing head with correct bite. He moved soundly at the front but he needs to strengthen in rear movement which I’m sure will come with maturity.
PD (2) 1 BPD, Roberts’ Longsdales Turning Tables, smart cream puppy with super dark pigment. Head of pleasing shape with correct bite & good ear placement. He has a nice reach of neck, a good level topline & correct tailset which together gave a pleasing outline. He displayed true straight movement coming & going; 2 H Ace Of Spades at L.
JD (1) 1 Hewett & Barnes’ Spellcast Talk Tidee, brown dog with balanced outline, lovely wedge head with excellent ear carriage & placement, nice oval eye with pigmentation harmonising with coat colour, correct bite. His head is carried on a correct length neck. He has a firm back with ultra short loin & his body is well ribbed up & strong but he is slightly short & steep in upper arm. Lovely high set tail. Good on the move with no exaggeration, straight coming & going & maintaining a level topline. In excellent coat.
PGD (6,2a) 1 Taylor’s Zephon King Of The Rock for Tispitza, nice cream boy with an overall good shape & strong body. His correct neck & shoulder placement lead into well boned legs & neat feet. His head handles well with neat ears & he has a nice expression with eyes of very good dark pigment. He moved soundly at all times. Correct for size & carrying a good coat; 2 Saich’s Lindcoly Fozzie Bear, smaller type cr/s with excellent bone for size. Nice head shape giving excellent expression but would prefer slightly smaller ears. He has an excellent outline. His soundly made body covered by a well fitting coat of correct texture. Moved correctly from all angles; 3 Hughes & Forrester’s Grizwold Muraco Moon over Candease, cream boy who is good for size with medium bone. He has a well knit body with deep well sprung ribcage & slight tuck-up with balanced quarters, correct tailset & carriage. He has a correct length/height ration. While his head is well balanced his skull could be a little flatter & the eye a little less full.
LD (6) 1 Hall’s Sobriety’s Grizzly Bear for Pufnstuf, up to the measure but has so much to like about him. Brown dog with profuse coat of excellent texture. Masculine wedge shaped head with good eye & excellent ear placement. Correct bite. He has a good reach of neck which leads into correct lay of shoulder. His topline is level & his body well ribbed with a nice & short loin. Rear angulation is good. Correct tailset. Moved well from all angles; 2 Hearson’s Nixtev Uraxys at Jumasue, he has a pleasing wedge head, with good breadth to skull & muzzle, lovely eye & dark pigment. Ears could be better set. Short coupled with good bone, standing straight in front, another with a strong forechest. Moved well in side profile & towards you but is a little narrow going away; 3 Rogerson’s Zephon The Last Samurai, black dog of correct square compact shape giving balanced outline. He has a typical wedge head with lovely kind expression & nice neat ears which are well placed. His short neck leads into a slightly upright upper arm. His topline is nice & level with a short loin, & excellent tailset. Excellent coat & condition. Moved OK.
OD (12,1) 1 CC, BOB & RBIS, Smith’s Ch Spellcast Jivetalking, black dog of excellent quality & type. He has a good wedge shaped head with correct eye & colour. Correct bite. He is compact with good lay of shoulder, tight elbows, good rib into short loin & excellent tailset giving a very balanced outline, Good bone & neat feet. Shown in hard muscle condition. Extremely well presented coat of excellent quality & condition. His owner tended at times to move him a little too fast but at the correct speed he moved well, with good side gait. Shows himself off at all times; 2 O’Leary’s Ch/Ir/Int Ch Amoyalois Rufus for Cadasaro, lovely wolf/s/w parti dog with well made body, good neck & excellent shoulder placement, good tailset. Excellent coat & condition. His head & expression is pleasing with correct shape of eye although eye colour could be slightly darker. He has well placed ears that could be a tad neater in size. Excellent overall conformation, body shape & pleasing true, light easy gait in all directions; 3 King’s Ch Grizwold Loki, o/s with great texture to his coat just would prefer a little more of it. Good wedge head having nice dark eye & neat ears nicely placed & correct bite. He has correct angulation at both the front & rear with well sprung ribs of correct length & depth, good for neck & bone. Moved well in both directions holding his well balanced outline on the move.
VB (2) 1 RCC, Moir’s Ch Nixtev Liberty at Jansanleis, at 9 years this lovely quality cream bitch still has a very nice head with dark eyes, excellent pigmentation, good scissor bite & neat small ears. She has a medium length of neck, good straight front & her body is compact as well as balanced. Her level topline & high set tail create a really good outline. Nice for size & retains her balance well covering the ground with sound movement. Shows with such style put down in super condition; 2 Mountain’s Daraydala Pink Fizz at Hocombewood, 9 years light brown. She is very well balanced with clean outline. Her head features all complimenting one another with moderate stop. Her body is well made with straight forelimbs & is well ribbed up & firm in loin. She tends to lift her legs a little high in profile on the move but otherwise is sound.
MPB (1) 1 Mountain’s Hocombewood Touch Of Mink, pretty 6 month old with everything in the right place. Her head is neat & well shaped with good ear placement & pigment blending well with coat colouring. Her body is well put together & of correct proportions. She was very enthusiastic on the move making it a little difficult to assess but I’m sure she will settle with more experience.
PB (5) A class of nice youngsters who I’m sure may well change places on another day. 1 BP & RBPIS, Garbutt’s Nixtev Yazara, attractive youngster with good outline & super coat. She is nicely put together with very good proportions, excellent bone & feet. She has a lovely body with foursquare stance & high set tail which sets off her very balanced outline. Her head is very pretty & feminine with dark eyes & neat ears. Correct bite. She moved out well; 2 Pearce & Francis’ Longsdales One And Only, feminine cream bitch, with well defined wedge head, dark almond eye & pigment, ears could be a little better placed, correct bite. She has the correct length of neck with good lay of shoulder & a well made body. She does not carry the body coat of some of the others & has more rear angulation so looks a little longer in back but is of good proportions when handled. Nice high set tail, moved well & very confidently; 3 O’Leary’s Cadasaro Lets Parti, s/w parti, she has a longer head type than those above but she has a pretty expression & her head is topped by well set ears. She has strong bone with her very good body being well ribbed back with short loin &, very good rear muscle, OK tailset. She carries a good profuse coat of correct texture. Excellent gait.
JB (2,1) 1 CC, Hewett & Barnes’ Spellcast Now Ya Talkin, super brown girl who stood alone but well deriving of her placing. Her head is broad yet feminine with dark obliquely set oval expressive eyes. She is compact & square in shape with a well muscled up body that has well sprung ribs & is mature in forechest with good quarters. Together with her high tailset she presents an excellent outline which she maintains on the move. Presented in super condition to show off her many virtues & to take the CC.
PGB (8) 1 Heslop’s Flamuna Khione, quality bitch. Out of coat but what she had was of good texture. Her head has good proportions to skull & muzzle & her well shaped eye gave a pleasing expression. She is a very compact bitch with good front & rear angles, good spring of rib & short, strong loin & high set tail. Moved out very well; 2 Clayton’s Galvizach Moon Chimes, petite cream who has a sweet expression. Her head is of good shape although her ears are a little large. Her body is moderately angulated with well set hocks & is covered by a good textured coat. She held her topline on the move which was brisk in side profile; 3 Wells’ Bulabs Lady Penelope at Wolfcreek, nice feminine w/cr bitch in good coat of correct texture. Good wedge shape head, nice almond shape eye & correct bite. She has a very good neck going into correct moderate shoulder, good front & back assembly which meant that she moved out with purpose. Nice balanced bitch.
LB (7,1) 1 Andrew’s Claran Pepperpots, 2 year old dark o/s bitch with a very nice wedge shaped head having dark eye & a gentle expression topped by neat ears which were used well. Her correct arch to neck leads into well laid shoulders & level topline. She has sound quality boned legs with neat cat feet. Sound & precise on the move; 2 Hughes & King’s Zephon Akane, I liked her for type & balance. She has expressive dark eyes which are well placed. Her reasonable front, combined with clean neck, ribs well sprung, level topline, turn to stifle & with tailset & carried high gave a good outline. She was shown in quality coat & is a free mover; 3 Orr’s Sobriety’s Caviars Whispa, black who is stronger in head than the first two but still very feminine. Excellent dentition. Good eye shape & moderate stop. She carries a good harsh coat which covers a body of excellent proportions. Her rear & side movement were but front movement was a little wide.
OB (11,1) 1 Garbutt’s Ch Nixtev Tantalize, mature white of very attractive type & quality. Her head is very well laid out with a soft expression & dark pigmentation. She has a super neck & front assembly leading down to good feet. Her chest is of good depth & her body is of correct proportions. She projects an upstanding, clean, balanced outline although her tail could be somewhat higher set. Excellent coat. She moved with style & precision from the side, quite pleasing coming & going. Seriously considered her for the RCC but she had to give way to the veteran who was in sparkling form today; 2 Orr’s Ch Pufnstuf Put A Spell On You at Sobriety, beautiful black girl who has a lovely shape with a good head & eye shape. She has a lovely compact body being good in rib & short in loin with well set on tail to give a nice outline. Her shoulder & rear being correctly angulated. She carries excellent bone & is of good proportions throughout. Preferred front movement of winner today; 3 Hull, Hamer & Cree’s Ch Clarmers Best Buds with Gibbcree, very pretty b/t who has a super head, eye & pigment. Her neck & shoulders are good & she has a strong little body with high set tail giving well balanced outline. She moved very well. Just not the finish of coat of those above her today.
