Critique

I would like to thank the exhibitors for bringing some quality dogs under me today, especially my major winners in both sizes. I have been very concerned during this year over the quality of some of the exhibits seen; but today no such serious concern. The bites of virtually all exhibits in both sizes were true scissor bites, & generally construction has much improved although bone in some in both sizes is too fine. Unfortunately what seems to have deteriorated even more is front movement. Legs are all over the place. It is no good breeding a “pretty standing” dog if it can’t move correctly. The breed standard calls for “moving without exaggeration from any angle. Viewed from the side, effortless, brisk action, retaining topline.”

MPD (2) 1 Smith’s Sobriety Moves Like Jagger, very masculine in outlook, just lacking coat as only 6 months at present. Nice head pattern with lovely dark eye & pigment. Good front with level topline but tends to stand long over the ground. Movement more positive than the second; 2 Saich’s Hocombewood Ace Of Spades at Lincoly, nicely made black but would persist in dropping his tail so spoiling the overall effect. Good head & expression with dark well placed eye. Good body with correct tuck-up. Hind movement erratic today.

PD (4) 1 Roberts’ Longsdale’s Turning Tables at Cwrt Afon, cream with good coat coming through. Nice head proportions. Dark pigment with well placed eye & ears. Good bone with straight front. Immature at present but with promise. Level topline & well laid tail. BP; 2 Chambers’ Druitz By Design for Musique, brown with a dense fitting jacket. Eye colour tends to give a hard expression. Good body with level topline. Best move in the class; 3 H Ace Of Spades at L.

JD (1) 1 Hewett & Barnes’ Spellcast Talk Tidee, brown in full coat. Masculine in outlook but I feel slight filling between the eyes can detract from what would otherwise be a very good head pattern with excellent muzzle & neat ears. Moderate neck set well into shoulders. Well ribbed up. Movement not easy to assess as was moved very slowly so tended to pace.

PGD (1) 1 Heslop’s Flamuna Arktouros, lovely rich dark brown male. Beautifully put together. Correct harsh coat. Excellent head & expression. Balanced throughout with good bone. Moved freely around the ring as though he could go all day. I had no hesitation in awarding him the CC.

LD (6) 1 Hall’s Sobriety Grizzly Bear for Pufnstuf, well put together masculine brown. In full coat & well presented. Good to handle as well constructed & balanced throughout. Good head pattern. Correct bone with straight front. Moved very well round the ring driving from the rear. RCC; 2 Hearson’s Nixtev Uraxys at Jumasue, white also in full coat. Good head with well placed eye, excellent pigment. Nice in outline with good bone, straight front & well laid tail; 3 Mulholland & Rogerson’s Zephon The Last Samurai.

OD (4) 1 Chambers’ Ch Musique Worth The Wait, very balanced brown in full coat. Well constructed with good head & well placed eye & ear Good spring of rib with moderately tucked up short loin. Level topline. Moved well; 2 Williams & Garbutt’s Ch Nixtev Torvald, white inclined to drop his tail, when brought up showed a lovely balanced outline without exaggeration. Nice to go over a worthy Ch; 3 O’Leary’s Ir Ch/GB/Int Ch Amoyalois Rufus for Cadasaro.

MPB (1) 1 Mountain’s Hocombewood Touch Of Mink, rather small immature puppy. Slightly long in back not helped by a slightly low tailset. Balanced head. Movement not settled.

PB (0).

JB (2) 1 Hewett & Barnes’ Spellcast Now Ya Talkin, brown feminine bitch in full coat well presented. Good head & expression. Well bodied up. Front movement lets her down with erratic action; 2 O’Leary’s Cadasaro Lets Parti, parti. Lovely head & expression, ears could be slightly smaller but did not detract. Appeared to be long caste as on occasion standing long over the ground. Not in full coat at present but immaculate in what there was. Moved easily.

PGB (4) 1 Hewett & Barnes’ Spellcast Speaks For Itself, a quality feminine brown bitch, a strong contender for the RCC. Lovely head & expression, beautifully presented. Neat well placed ears & lovely dark eye. Well put together & balanced throughout. A very good mover; 2 Clewer’s Bullbo Over The Moon, cream, different type to the winner & not in full coat today, but very sound to go over. Well constructed with good bone; 3 Purves’ Bulabs Blonde Moon.

LB (2) 1 Saich’s Lincoly Pixie Princess, black, hyperactive, never still which made her difficult to assess at times especially movement, so cost her top honour consideration. Lovely head & expression. Beautifully put together & balanced throughout; 2 Alfred’s Nixtev Vitesse at Teamor, cream, slightly longer cast than the winner, especially in the loin. Good bone & firm body. Level topline with well laid tailset.

OB (4) 1 Duncan’s Ir Ch Spellcast Talk Of The Town, black in full coat, not glamorous but very sound & excellent on the move. Lovely balanced head with dark eye. Neck of moderate length set well into the shoulders. Good spring of rib with short loin. Well bodied up with level topline. Square in outline with good tailset to complete the picture. CC & BOB; 2 Hull, Hamer & Cree’s Ch Clarmer’s Best Buds with Gibbcree, very glamorous young bitch. Smaller than the winner but well presented, not in full coat but coat she had was in good condition. Nice head & expression. Good bone for size & well bodied up. Straight front & neat feet. Good on the move covering the ground without effort. RCC; 3 Barnes, Mann & Hewett’s Ch Spellcast Talking About Me.
