South Wales Kennel Association Championship Show (German Spitz Mittel) – 7/10/17
Thank you to the Officers & Committee for this my first appointment to Judge German Spitz Mittel’s at this level, thanks also to my excellent Stewards, Joan & Ruth, making my day a lot easier & enjoyable. I was looking for an almost square outline overall with a medium large nearly flat skull & wedge shaped nose, an intelligent dog with gentle expression & sound in movement. Thankfully I did find some very nice examples of the breed, dentition & temperament’s were good, there were one or two ‘Sheltie’ type heads, altogether too narrow, some exhibits were longer in the body than required, angulation should be moderate but there should be some angulation, one or two were straight in the stifle. The final line up was very pleasing so much so that the BOB & BP were shortlisted in their respective groups.

MPD (1, 0) 1 Hall & Rolleston’s Bullbo Showstopper for Ghilgrange. Very pleasing cream puppy with correct wedge shape, needs to grow into his ears, good pigment & almost square outline, bone & feet good, correct textured coat, steady mover for one so young.

PD (3, 0) 1 Chamber’s Musique Azlan. Almost one year old and very out of coat, hiding nothing. I liked his head being correct in shape, kind oval eye, enough bone & square in outline; steady enough on the move just needs to tighten up in front. Best P D. 2 Rogerson & Mullholand’s Fisherbloom Black Shaman with Nosregor. Very pleasing sable dog, another out of coat, again good head & eye, well off for bone, nice tight feet, needs to square up a little, steady on the move, preferred overall shape of winner. 3 Hall & Rolleston’s Bullbo Showstopper for Ghilgrange.

JD (2, 0) 1 Brock & Peterson’s Jansanleis Polar Express to Pomkins. Cream dog, not a big one but very well put together, good head, sweet expression, excellent pigment, coat of good quality, good angulation throughout, moved well. 2 Hill’s Flamuna Tarvos of Kilima. Pleasing young dog, nice head & expression, just coming into coat, good angulation, just enough bone but did not settle on the move today.

PGD (2, 0) 1 Holloway’s Nixtev Jago. 20 month old cream dog still maturing, lovely dark eye of correct shape, pleasing head in nice coat, with quality bone, tight cat like feet, moved & showed well. 2 Dyer & Vines’ Sobriety Something Wicked. Young black male still coming together, head of good type, dark eye, well off for bone, he is improving all the time, unfortunately would not settle on the move today. 

LD (2, 0) 1 Davies’ Nixtev Serylius. Almost 6yr old cream dog again not a big one but very well put together, head of correct shape, strong topline, enough bone, catlike feet, loved his overall shape, moved well but not on his toes today lacking the necessary spark for top honours. 2 Roberts’ Longsdale Turning Tables at Cwrt Afon. Pleasing young cream male with dark eye just coming into coat, good bone & feet, kept a level topline on the move, preferred overall shape of the winner.

OD (4, 1) Three worthy Champions all sharing the same Dam. 1 Williams’ CH Spellcast Talk To Da Paw at Trebettyn. 6 1/2yr old male, where have the last few years gone, I have often admired this dog from the ringside, now in his prime. Black male with super head & dark eye, almost square in outline & up to size, he has quality bone, short neck set well into shoulders, good forechest well ribbed up keeping a level topline, correct bend of stifle as befits his size, covers the ground so well with reach & drive in good quality coat, very pleased to award him dog CC & BOB, delighted he was shortlisted in the group. 2 Smith’s CH. Spellcast Jivetalking. Another lovely black male, litter brother to winner, a smaller dog who has everything that is required. Correct head & eye, level topline, well ribbed up, enough bone, cat like feet, covered the ground so well just not on his toes today & didn’t make good use of his ears but could not be denied Res Dog CC. 3 Hewett’s CH. Spellcast Shout about it.

MPB (2, 0) 1 Drechsler’s Longsdale New Addition. Pretty young dark cream bitch. Pleasing head with dark eye, almost square in shape with quality bone, everything coming together, as it should be, moved well for one so young. 2 Roberts’ Billboard Attraction at Cwrtafon. Another young cream bitch, longer cast than first but could square up as she matures, head needs to come together & ears could be a tad smaller, good shaped dark eye, enough bone & moved steadily.

PB (1, 0) 1 Williams & Williams’ Dulais Moonlight over Paris at Trebettyn. I make no apologies for liking this bitch, a cream sable not in full coat but this only showed off her excellent outline. Feminine head with dark eye & naughty expression, correct length of neck well set into sloping shoulders, good topline, quality bone, cat like feet, moved very well in this class & to take BPIB. Considered for the res cc, one to watch.

JB (4, 0) 1 Williams & Williams’ Dulais Moonlight over Paris at Trebettyn. 2 Moir’s Jansanleis Envy. Another nice young cream lady in good coat, quality head with dark eye & excellent pigmentation, kept her topline on the move & moved well, not quite the outline of first but a good quality bitch. 3 Rolleston & Hall’s Kelham Love is in the Air.

PGB (5, 0) 1 Moir’s Jansanleis Envy. 2 Booth-Hudson’s Nixtev Yanta. Pretty feminine girl with good head & dark pigment, in good coat & has all the essentials, correct angulation, moved soundly just not the showmanship of winner. 3 Taylor’s Clarmers' Mischief Managed under Tispitza.

LB (1, 0) 1 Rayment’s Grizwold Lady of the Lake. 4yr old white & cream parti-coloured bitch not quite in full coat but a lot to like about her, good head & pigment her expression however would be improved if she used her ears, good bone, kept her topline as she moved soundly.

OB (3, 1) Two lovely bitches sharing the same sire, I believe he is behind all my top winners today. 1 Duncan’s IR CH. Spellcast Talk of the Town. 6yr old bitch of quality, in her prime, she really caught my eye on entering the ring. Black in lovely coat an almost flat skull with correct length of muzzle, dark oval eye, short neck into sloping shoulders, well ribbed up, excellent tail set, good feet, moved so well, on her toes & using her ears she could not be denied the Bitch CC. Delighted to hear this was her third, well done & well deserved. 2 Moir’s CH. Jansanleis Mayhem JW. Another quality cream bitch, 6yrs old & mature, she has a lovely head with feminine expression. A good front, level topline, correct angulation throughout, lovely shape & moved well, unlucky to meet the winner today on such good form but well deserved Res B CC.

VB (1, 0) 1 Moir’s CH. Nixtev Liberty at Jansanleis. 10 yr. old feminine cream bitch who flew around the ring completely belying her years, not in full coat but you could see all her qualities, good head & eye, enough bone, correct angulation, a worthy Ch & an excellent veteran.
