Critique
MITTEL: It has been over three years since I last judged this breed, and I must confessed to being very disappointed with the lack of depth of quality in the dog classes, particularly in the lower classes. At one time, the Mittels appeared very much in the ascendancy over the Kleins, but the tables have very much turned the other way, or so it seems to me. Very untypical heads, poor front construction and movement, long hocks must be looked at hard and long. The bitches had much more depth of quality to them, but I worry as to where their breeders will look to for future stud dogs, if this entry is anything to go by. There also seems to be this “long and low” look creeping in as well, something to be concerned about, the spitz breed should be almost square, not decidedly rectangular on short legs.Happily, I was very pleased with my two CC winners, which were both on the smaller size, but still very correct.
PD (3): Poor fronts and rears, but several typical heads.1, Brooks’ Blazeaway Medicine Man, 7 month old youngster with typical head and expression. Needs to settle more in front action. Has most typical outline and balance with very good neck, legs, feet. Coat is coming along.; 2, Roberts’ Nosregor Black Blade of Veratina, excellent headed dog but for me fails in front. Very well trained, presents typical outline. Steep shoulder and upper arm resulted in lack of forechest and this showed on the move. 3 Bray’s Tearaway Crazy Horse of Abbicher.
JD (6): Again, another class with very steep shoulders and legs coming out of one hole fronts. 1 and CC, Hunter’s Rossfort Banjaxed, gold dog of excellent body shape, proportions and balance and this told on the move, having the best overall quality in the class. Excellent head with correct ratios, correct expression, lovely small high set ears, excellent pigment, lovely bone, cat-like feet (one of the few with really tight well knuckled feet). In the class was a bit hesitant using his tail, but in the challenge was more settled. Easy CC winner, and he should gain his title with ease.; 2, Looker’s Dramidas the Party’s On with Umshumbwe, attractive dog with lots to like, very good body shape, excellent tail set; very good bone. Handsome expression, with very dark oval eyes and well set ears, though these are a shade tall. very good neck, but not the front of the class winner; 3, Williams’ Druitz General Montgomery.
PGD (1): 1, Day’s Loki’s Gold Ingot, stood alone a gold dog with very good shape and outline. very good angles front and rear. Well ribbed body with short strong couplings, level topline, excellent tail. very good head and expression with ears well set and used, but eyes are a shade bold. Excellent legs and tight feet.
Ld (6):All are excellent quality, just fine differences in eye shape, ear set. All moved acceptably.1, Connor’s Galvizach the Chimney Sweep, masculine black dog with very good conformation, excellent coat, ears, neck , legs and feet, though for optimal balance I would like shorter hocks. Moved typically in side and rear gait, not so settled in the front; 2, Powell’s Kuseley Kloves Sable dog with very good conformation. Excellent coat, balanced overall body and correct tail set to complete the picture. So why didn’t he win the class? He just would not use his ears to advantage and was more unsettled at times on the move, tending to throw his front in looking up at his handler.; 3, Andrew’s Runfold Blacken Buff to Musique.
OD (7): Very good class with lots to like in the line-up.1 and RCC, Powell’s Ch. Kuseley’s Kute Kevin, sable dog with overall excellent breed type combined with very good size and overall shape. Has excellent head, expression, eye, ears. very good neck with very good shoulder and upper arm. Excellent body shape, well ribbed and rounded with short strong loin, level topline, excellent tail. Moved well.; 2, Rogerson’s Nosregor Ellans Vallin, brown dog with very typical body shape and outline. Righ now is lacking body but coat is excellent texture and quality. very good topline and excellent tail, legs and feet. Typical expression and movement; 3, Hunter’s Rosechow Archimedes at Rossfort.
PB (5): Mixed quality class.1 and easy BP, Andrew’s Runfold Ellon Earth stood out for breed type, head, expression. Excellent conformation, head/expression and overall balance. Was unssettled on the table but once on the floor regained her typical temperament. Excellent on the move with typical puppy exhuberance. I strongly considered her for the RCC, she just needs more time to come together, but there is no doubting the outstanding promise and quality of this cream youngster.; 2, Hewett’s Runfold Eternal, slightly long cast bitch with excellent conformation and moved well. Coat has slight wave right now. She has excellent dark oval eyes but ears are a bit wide set. very good bone and legs, but feet could be tidied up to advantage; 3, Cook’s Hidaway Dances with Wolves.
JB (6): Far better consruction in this class throughout. First two are excellent in quality. Both are very typical with excellent conformation, construction, balance, having correct shoulders, well ribbed bodies, excellent tails, legs and feet. Both moved well. In the end the class winner was in full coat, whilst #2 came in her underwear. Preferred the eye shape of the class winner. In the challenge for the CC and for BOB #1’s easy light yet totally sound movement at all times told in the end to take her to the top.1, CC and BOB, Sear’s Desaria Desire; 2, connor’s Galvizach Nox Yer Sox Off; 3, Blight’s Rosechow Chantilly Lace.
PGB (5): 1,Galvizach Nox Yer Sox Off; 2, Powell’s Kuseley’s Desaria Dee,very sound chocolate bitch with excellent construction, movement, legs, feet and tail. She needs to be shorter in body to balance with her leg length, but otherwise excellent quality.; 3, Gilliard Wyndlee Surprise Party at Runfold.
LB (1): 1, Watkins’ Squirreldene Mignonette stood alone sable girl with good construction and movement but carrying far too much weight.
Ob (5): Overall good construction and movement in this class.1 and RCC, Rogerson’s Shelayne Minstrel Show I like my bitches to have feminine heads, and must declare that I am not a fan of Minstrel Show’s head, much preferring the expression of the #2 placed bitch. That said, however, I must look at the overall dog and Minstrel Show had the best of the lot in this class on the day. Excellent conformation and movement, Excellent overall balance, clean shoulders well laid, good length and return of upper arm, Excellent coat in full glory with correct density and straightness and texture. In the challenge it was the more feminine expression of the junior winner plus her preferred eye that won her the CC over this bitch.; 2, Roskell’s Galvizach Holy Smoke JW, she has a stunning head with excellent dark oval eyes on the slight oblique, not often seen these days. Not quite the shoulder lay of class winner and this showed in front gait. Compact balanced body shape. Is right now completely out of coat so will look a lot different in a few months’ time.; 3, Dorking’s Kuseley Hubub.
