Critique

I was pleased to accept this appointment at this show. I had my first appointment here in the breed of some 20 years ago and this is my final appointment. I was somewhat disappointed in the quality of some present. Far too many overlong in proportions and have short legs. Too much coat is also an undesirable characteristic. The breed standard calls for a profuse coat not an absolute abundance of it. These factors must be worked on or we are in danger of having over coated, over long short legged dogs which are not correct according to the breed standard.

Veteran dog
1 King’s Ch Grizwold Loki, 7-years orange. Sound mover of overall attractive general appearance. Correct type, size and proportions. Smart dog with outgoing temperament, quick, lively movement and very responsive to his handler/ breeder/owner. I was pleased to award him reserve CC and best veteran.
2 Thomas’ Croat Dutch Lux Int Ch Daraydala Lorenzo at Kelmorespitz, medium-sized black failed in proportions, long in back with a low tail set. Forward placed steep shoulder. Not the movement of the winner, nor the general pleasing outlook.

Minor Puppy Dog
1 Barnes’ & Andrew’s Claran Copper Nebula at Izlou. Tan sable. 7-months. Very typy, good strong colour. Appealed on first appearance, being an attractive smart puppy with good conformation, bone, legs and feet. Very well presented and handled. Moved with a good sound stride. A slightly more masculine head would further improve. Correct ears, eyes and in good condition. Correct in coat. Should do well.
2 Hall’s Dacfolke Artic Alupine at Pufnstuf, 7 months light grey sable, young and very puppyish at present. Head is a touch long and narrow, well balanced with good proportions, correct ears and eyes. Good bone, legs and feet. Moved well and soundly. Has the makings of a nice dog with maturity.

Puppy Dog
1 Barnes & King’s Izlou All You Knead Is Love. 9 months black, correct head proportions, ears could to advantage, the smaller. Good length of leg, rather long in middle piece, short in upper arm and could have a better laid shoulder. Free, easy mover, apart from occasional ambling.

Junior Dog
1 Rogerson’s Nosregor In A Land Of Myth. Very dark brown, a colour not often seen in our rings! Medium sized, medium strength of very good type, very typy in head, though a touch round in eye. Good bone, legs and feet. Presented in top condition and well handled. Well carried tail, and free movement.
2 Monks’ Cwrtafon Ioan, top size white who appears oversize at first look. However he went under the measure with ease. A completely different type to winner, not as neat and tidy. Well put together with a good forehand. Medium hind angulation, good tail set and well carried tail. Moved with a good stride when he settled down. Would like a slightly less profuse coat.

Post Graduate Dog
1 Blight’s Izlou Float Ma Boat. Black/with rather too much coat. Strong dog. Good bone, legs and feet. Proportions ok. Good head and forehand. Well set and well carried tail. Moved freely and coordinated.

Limit Dog
1 Barnes & King’s Izlou Shiver Me Timbers. Black. Good coat and condition. Medium hind angulation. Upper arm needs more slope and steep in shoulder. Sound mover but tended to paddle at a slow speed. This was corrected at a faster speed. Good length of stride when extended.

Open Dog
1 Barnes & King’s Spellcast Talk With Me By Izlou. Cream, top size dog with very good proportions, coat and balance. Good head and expression, bone, legs and feet. Shown in good condition. Moved very well with excellent extension and really covered the ground in an effortless manner. Handler tended to fiddle with him too much. The dog looked, at times fed up! When standing more naturally, looked happier! Dog CC and best of breed.

Veteran Bitch
1 Andrew’s Dagsljus Against All Odds at Claran (Swed Imp). 9 years sable. Very pretty bitch of correct type and of high quality. Good head, ears and eyes. Very good proportions. Shown in good coat and condition. Smart, correct movement albeit a shade close going away, good coming. I would prefer just a bit more of her, and I do not necessarily mean height. With her imported lines and excellent type she should prove an asset to the breed.

Minor Puppy Bitch
1 Andrew’s Claran Blue Galaxy. Sable, attractive head, ears and eyes with a good expression and outlook. Good bone, legs and feet, correct proportions. In good condition with a correct coat. Very sound in movement.

Junior Bitch
1 Barnes & King’s Izlou Mustard Been Love. Black, good type and quality, good bone, legs and feet. Rather long in proportions and needs longer legs. Moves quite well, although close going away.
2 Adam’s Fisherbloom Talk Of The Town. Black, again good type and fairly good proportions and balance. Not the demeanor of the winner and failed to her in movement.

Yearling Bitch

2 Hall’s Pufnstuf Kiss Da Paw. Black. Correct in head and eyes. Smaller ears would further enhance, a bit long in body and needs longer legs. Shown in good condition. Tend to throw her front legs about due no doubt to some steepness in shoulder and upper arm. Well set and carried tail. Quite sound going away.

Post Graduate Bitch
1 O’Leary’s Cadasaro Dreams Big. 2-years sable and white particolour. I was attracted to her as soon as she walked into the ring! Just over 2 years and the epitome of femininity. Very correct in head, with correct ears and very dark eyes. Proportions, body balance and coat all good. Oozed type. Very well put together and in very good condition, hard and dry. Excellent movement, her front reach and hind drive were quite outstanding. Dead sound coming and going. A shade more bone and you would very nearly have perfection! I was pleased to award her the CC. Her first, of which I am sure will be many.
2 Hewett’s Spellcast Talking Point AI. Black, 3 years. I found her far too long in body and short in leg. She has a nice head, with good bone and condition. Tended to loosen her tail at the times and drop it. Goes away somewhat close, and fair side gait.

1 Rogerson’s Nosregor Unforgettable. Brown pigmented cream, of correct size and of very good type. Head, eyes and ears all good. Balanced proportions and presents, in stance, a very harmonious picture. Good correct, and not overdone coat. Moved smartly with a good stride. Unfortunately toed in Behind. Reserve CC.
2 O’Leary’s Ir Ch Int Ch Cadasaro Lets Parti. Sister to the CC winner but larger, too fat and loose. Good head, eye and ears. Nice expression and showed well. For me, she has rather too much coat and rolls in back in movement.
