Critique
Many thanks to the ladies of the WELKS committee for the invitation to judge both sizes of German Spitz at their well organised show which was blessed with wonderful weather and heralded the start of the summer show season. As always I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the German Spitz and was very pleased with the overall quality. The German Spitz exhibitors are a sporting group of people and I was delighted to see everyone supporting the winners.
GERMAN SPITZ (MITTEL)

1. Barnes/King’s Ch. Izlou Shiver Me Timbers. No surprise that I liked this black dog today. He was my BOB when I last judged and I thought him worthy again today. My opinion has not changed of this quality veteran male. He has a very typical head of correct overall proportions. Correct wedge shape. Nice moderate and not overdone stop and clean through the cheeks. Good dark eye which is correctly shaped and well set. Correctly pigmented eye rims. Completing his expression is his small well set ears of correct overall shape and size. Nice through the neck into the shoulder. He has good moderate angulation both fore and aft. Well ribbed up. Correct level top-line and high set tail. Despite his age he still has the best of feet. Of good bone. I liked him stacked as he is of good overall make and shape, exhibiting that correct silhouette for the German Spitz. Movement is excellent for such an older dog where he is clean going away and coming towards you, in profile he is quite lovely, I had no hesitation in making him BD here today and again BOB over a very good bitch.

1.Barnes’ Izlou The Roxstar. Handsome gold dog who impressed me again for his overall make and shape. Initially he appeared slightly longer cast but much of this this is coat and when you put your hands on him he is of the exact proportions desired by the standard. Head is of correct overall proportions and he is lovely and clean through the cheek. Good muzzle of strength with good underjaw. Lovely pigmentation through a nicely set dark eye. I would like him a little less deep in stop if I am being hypercritical. Good ear size and set. Lovely bone and feet and well made front assembly. He is well ribbed up, has a moderate tuck up and his hindquarters are correctly angulated with well let down hock. He is a very sound mover and one of the soundest movers today. In going round in profile his reach and extension is excellent and he drives from the rear, retaining his top-line. Of good quality coat. I liked this dog very much.

I found this a hard class to sort. A number of dogs of different types, all with merits and demerits. 1. Griffiths’ Cadasaro Hans. Black and white male. He won here on his lovely head and expression. He has a good flat skull. Skull correctly wedge shaped, clean and he has good underjaw and strong in muzzle. Lovely dark eye and pleasing ears. Good bone and feet although could be a fraction stronger in front pastern. Well ribbed and good solid top-line with high set tail. In good coat and moved well. 2. Lewis’ Grizwold Pirate’s Tale at Louchelle. Another pleasing male of overall good size and shape. A black male with white socks. He pushed 1 hard. He is another with a lovely head and expression and good overall pigment. Good length of neck into well placed shoulders and correct forechest for the breed. Nice bone and feet. Not quite the tail carriage of 1 today and not in as full a jacket. However his jacket is of excellent harsh texture. I liked this dog on the move. 3. Huntley’s Ciasman Ala Droppaa Mun Tunnelmaa (imp FIN).

1. King’s Grizwold Owl Light. Cream and white male of lovely type. Beautiful head and expression with correct eye, ear and overall head proportions. He is well made throughout. He has good bone and lovely tight foot. Overall body proportions are good and he is in a good jacket today. Pleasing mover. Pleased to award him RBD in the challenge.

1. Andrew’s Claran Galaxy Quest TAF. I really fell for this 10 month old bitch the moment I saw her. She is of exquisite breed type, is full of herself at this young age and performed faultlessly. She is a really lovely puppy and has the most beautiful head of correct overall proportions. There is no mistake that this is a German Spitz. She has a lovely dark eye and correct eye rims. Pleasing small ear correctly set and well used today. Good strength in muzzle and good strength through the head without any loss of femininity, clean through the cheek. Good length of neck, and well placed shoulders, of lovely bone and with nice tight foot. She has enough width through the front. She is well ribbed, is correct in top-line and has a lovely high set tail. Nicely angulated through the rear. In a lovely good coat and well put down. Despite her age she is in hard muscular condition. I really thought her a beautiful typy bitch and on the move she excels, is clean fore and aft and in side profile shows her well made construction, she pushed hard in the challenge against more maturer bitches that I have valued and placed in the past. Nevertheless I could not deny her BB today and I am sure she will annex many more awards as she matures through her show career. I wish her well, BB & BP.

1. Hickson’s Claran Galaxy Girl at Kichigai. Another 10 month old young bitch who happens to be litter sister to the winner of PB. Another quality bitch who excels in head and expression. Another in excellent jacket for her age. She is full of herself and really did give her owner a hard time today. She pleased, like her litter sister, in overall type. She has a lovely headpiece of good length with correct moderate stop and overall head proportions being ideal. Nicely made through, in good bloom and good hard condition, moved well although needs to settle into her role. 2. Fitton’s Shelayne’s Celebration. Red and white of good quality. Lovely for size and overall shape. Pleasing headpiece and good expression. Just very raw at this stage, needs to drop into herself and mature through the body. She is well angulated fore and rear and has a good typical coat. Good front action although could be a fraction tidier going away. This might improve as she muscles up. Another who has a promising career.

1. Kettlewhite’s Cadasaro Gucci. Black and white, another of good body proportions and overall size is correct. Not in the best of jackets today and needs to develop her cape although has lovely tail feathering and good feathering of the forelegs and hind legs. Not quite the front assembly of the winners. Moved ok but could be better in front. In good hard condition.

1. Barnes/King’s Ch. Kitsune The Lioness at Izlou (AI). Very smart typy bitch of lovely type. Overall proportions are ideal. Clean through the cheek with a good length of her head for her size. Correct flat skull. Nicely placed ears of good size. Well made front assembly. Good rib and correct moderate tuck up. Good high set tail and in excellent harsh coat. Moved well. RBB.2. Fitton’s Nosregor Cassiopeia at Shelayne. Sable bitch of quality, placed over the 3rd placed bitch due to slightly smaller ears. Lovely make and shape. Overall style is excellent and she moved well.3. Hutchings-Brooks/Brooks/Hutchings’ Jamsanleis The Magic Piper with Jenerelena.Completed a trio of good bitches
